8 Pages later and all you guys had to say was..........250 ninja  no more no less.  when these threads start out with..."Gee I want to buy my 1st bike ever, should I start on a 1000 or a 600 RR" ? there should be no debate, just tell the person to go buy a baby ninja till they learn how to ride

Listen up.. I have had 600,750 and 1000's.. the current 600's on a day to day basis have more power than you will ever NEED!! PERIOD.. I had a good friend start off on a 1000, in 2001.. he crashed it 3 timnes and finally totalled it. i always emphazised the proper gear when riding, and well,, afterwards he bought a 02 R1 again i had the same bike he did. and he was riding pretty fast.. he just looked uncomfortable, out of place going fast..maybe it was just me..TO THE MAIN POINT... he's not with us anymore, he was a great guy, from what i got he went too fast too soon and a lady cut in front of him.. I have another friend..PHENOMENAL RIDER.. you know one of those natural ability guys.. well he crashed a half a block after picking up his 929 ERION edition.. after seeing me ride the streets he went out and got a street bike.. he has much more riding experience than i have and he crashed in the first minute of hitting the road..ASK ANYONE.. the smart ones that know will tell you.. 600 is enough.. as for the good deal on a 1000 they will always be there, b/c people buy bikes for all the wrong reasons, and usually they'll be selling them, whether it scared the crap out of them, money problems, they couldnt get any chicks with the bike..ect..ect... I cannot say this any clearer>>>  "GET A 600!!"  you wont be disappointed and when youre ready 4 a 1000 you'll know, my friend followed my advice, after riding my R1 he was like thats too much power.., and he has a 2003 636.. NOW 5 years of riding later he's getting a 08 GSXR750.. which will be more than enough..TAKE YOUR TIME!!! you will get there and enjoy the ride, BTW the 600's are much more fun than the 1000's I bought one last year after 4 years on 1000cc bikes.. DO IT!! and I rode the current 07 cbr600rr ... thing is INSANE, power everywhere, the bike hooks up VERY WELL out of corners and shoots you down to the next one.. awesome 600.. GOOD LUCK..HOPE THIS HELPS..  PM me if you have any questions i would be glad to answer anything that's on your mind..

Why is this here? Not only is it 8+ pages later, but you guys are giving advice to a question asked by someone 07/2006. That's over a year ago. Hopefully the guy bought something buy now. I didn't read all the replys. If he didn't buy something already, sorry my bad. Make up your damn mind already. It's been over a year.

It's funner to ride a slow bike fast than it is to. Swap the gearing & pull a plug on a fast one.
Wait a minute! It made sence the first hundreth time I heard it?

My 600RR is more than enough, plus to me it's fast to the point of insanity, once I hit the midrange and top-end. It's possible to start out on a 600RR since it's more forgiving in the throttle than a bike that does 90 in first gear. Think about it, you never have to shift and you are going fast enough to get a reckless driving charge. How many people can truly say that they have mastered their 600? I started on a 600 VLX, which is a great beginner bike and then I moved up to a Honda Magna VF750, which was quite a jump in power but I made it without any trouble. Again, respect the bike for what it can do. I bought a '94 F2 for $1000 and that's that. Still, I bought a Suzuki Intruder when I decided that the Magna had to go due to the loud pipes but I will stick to my 600RR for awhile until I get an M109 next year, maybe. Those bikes are just amazing but they obviously don't handle as well as what I'm used to. I don't have a ladyfriend anymore so my right hand is fatigued alot these days, making me less inclined to twist the throttle more than I need to...

wow.. talk about the kiddie battle of who can get in the last word..

I jumped from the f2 section to this because I am thinking of trading up to the 1000rr.  After reading through this thread I can't believe how childish people can be.  The problem is they don't realise how childish they are, they just want the last word - like a child would.

I have six children so I know what I'm talking about.  My lovely 11 year old daughter has Downs Syndrome has competed at a county level in the Special Olympics.

I've never thought of my daughter as 'retarded'.  She has learning difficulties and speech problems but she is a lively kid who is full of personality.

Sorry to move further away from the point of this thread but I felt compelled to post this to counteract offensive images like this posted by ignorant people to try and insult others because they don't agree with them.

I just brought home an '06 CBR 1000 after riding an F2 for one season and a 600RR for almost two seasons and I think the power is managable, up to a point. Of course my first ride on this beast was with a brand new back tire and in rather cold conditions so I could have easily laid the bike down without having excellent throttle control. It handles rather well and you don't notice the weight too much. If you show the bike the proper respect, you will make it but far too many people don't so they fail or die. Tomorrow I will hopefully be able to ride a bit more and get that back tire broken in so I can open it up without fear of losing it. If you're not on you're "A" game at all times when on a liter bike, don't buy one. That goes for any of the SS bikes but double for any liter...

The 600 is a great bike fast enough for anyone and a smarter choice for a first bike, however if you are responsible buy the 1000 for sure, be careful take your time.  If you buy the 600 you will want the 1000 as soon as you master the 600 (probably after 2,000 miles of riding).  I made the same mistake almost 20 years ago when I bought my first street bike.  My advice is to buy a pre-owned 600 for a fraction of the price ride that and learn, buy the 1000 and ride that when you feel the need, keep the miles low.

Only fools start out on liter bikes. If its truely your first bike buy a 08 ninja 250R and learn how to ride n dont worry about looking cool n flexing your edick. If you buddies tell you go big or dont go at all, or if you dont have a liter you dont have a peter, tell those ignorant SOB's to kiss off.

well i didnt read all 9 pages but, i started riding 12 years ago on a 95 katana 600. rode it for 2 years, then went to a gsxr 750. three years after that i went to a bandit 1200, then to triumph speed triple after 36,000 miles on my bandit 34,000 miles later i traded up to my 06 cbr1000rr. i have almost 100,000 miles of riding under me. each bike i had i put near 20-30k miles on. i missed the handling of my 750 and wanted a better handling bike then my speedtriple. i got a great deal on my 06 1k cheaper then i could have gotten a 07 600rr. do i need the power? not realy, but if ridden properly it is not that hard to control. i might have gotten the 600rr if it was as cheap as the 06 1k i found. power is not everything. i ride with a guy on a sv 650 that out runs my triple. i say but the 600 not a 250 learn to ride it, then realy learn to ride it. most mortals will never push a 600rr past its limits on the street. i know i will never come near the limits of the 1k.

K.I.S.S. - Keep it short and simple. Respect the bike and it's power...1000 or 600!!!!
