Was cruising in the Downriver cruise Friday night. It was hot and humid, traffic was really thick, like barely moving. My bike got to 250 and this light kicked on, and my temp light lit up. I noticed that my fan wasn't on. If I cruise, it's fine, but in traffic the bike gets really hot. The fan doesn't work. I'm new to this. Temp sensor? I checked the connections, and they're fine. Good ground connection, etc... Common problem? It's an 01 F4i with 8k miles. Is there anyway to test the fan? Maybe ground the power wire? I don't remember how exactly I did it before, but I got my fans on my car to kick on like that. Any suggestions?

I own a '01F4I as well. Last night when I pulled into my garage I left the bike run for a minute and when I got back from closing the bay door the temp was 220--this really stressed me out as it usually stays between 175-185 degrees. I was going to see how high it got before the fans kicked in, but I chickened out. I realize this doesn't help your cause, but my bike may be in the same boat. What is normal temp for fans to kick in??

I've got an 05 f4i and the fan kicks in at 222 (if my memory is correct), it shouldn't reach temps above that without the fan coming on. It may be a faulty temp sensor or some sort of bad connection. I also have a 94 f2 and it does the same thing temp guage goes all the way to the red if I'm in traffic, so I wired the fan to a switch, that way I can keep the bike cool when in traffic. Its my stunt bike so I don't really care about it.

First, check the fuse to make sure it isn't blown. If you checked all the connections on the fan and they're good the fan itself may be bad. Let it idle until it hits 230 (fan should be on at this point) and check the voltage going to the fan. If you have power at the plug then the fan probably bit it.

I fixed it a few days ago. The fan usually kicks on around 210 on my 01 f4i. It was as simple as a blown fuse.
