wow, i can't believe some of these posts...

car oil? wtf?

to keep the oil from going everywhere from removing the oil filter I:

1) Cover the headers with aluminum foil, creating a channel for the oil to drain to
2) unscrew the filter very very slowly so it doesn't all dump out at once

only oil I'll use is: Honda HP4 WITHOUT MOLY

Sure it's more expensive but it was made for the bike and it's what it says in the owners manual. I always follow the manual (except for that 'every 16,000 miles' valve adjusting junk)

i think some common sense should jump in here... "car oil" is for... cars, it says so in the name. Bike oil has to do the job of engine oil and transmission oil.

if you use moly once or twice, it won't kill your bike really. it just increases problems you could have with your clutch more than anything. it also makes the bike harder to shift in some cases.

Right..but I just wanted to make sure the GN4 does not contain moly...the HP4 comes in both the non moly and moly flavors....thats why they make trhe distinction on the label...

i use car oil...third gen uses car oil...lots of riders i know use car oil...

use what you want, but do not push your false information on the board unless you got stuff to back it up.

as long as the oil is labeled as non-energy conserving then it's fine to use with wet clutch.

moly is present in many motorcycle oils (honda GN4, HP4, etc.)...just not in quantities large enough to make your clutch slip.

a test done by sportrider awhile back regarding motorcycle specific oils found moly in oil that claimed to have no moly in it...it was in trace amounts. conclusion was that a little moly is not enough to make the clutch slip.

I get this big bottle of Castrol synthetic from dealership for 30 bux.  I don't change my oil every weekend like racers so I think the peace of mind is worth a few bux.

What brands car oil U using?  Syn or non-syn?
