2000cbrf4 -> Second gear on a 2000 F4? Hey Turnin20s, figured it out! (8/11/2006 6:15:36 PM)

I am having no luck at all on my 2nd gear wheelies. A guy in front of me today pulled one up at 65, about 10mph too fast for me because I have to be in 1st to get it up. Even @ 8,000 rpm in second, it will not clutch up. Am I waisting my time trying on this bike or am I doing something wrong?

CAN'T GET second up!

give her a bounce...practice...

2000cbrf4 -> RE: Second gear on a 2000 F4i? (8/11/2006 8:36:27 PM)

Bounce as in throttle snap, or body motion? But it will have to be clutched, right? I appreciate any advice.

8,000 isnt gonna do it....and i dont bounce my bike...

stand staggered, throw 90% of your weight on that back peg and keep bringing the rpms up until it comes up....i dont watch the tach but i gaurantee im close to rev limiter when i clutch it up...

2000cbrf4 -> RE: Second gear on a 2000 F4i? (8/11/2006 10:00:28 PM)

So pretty much, untill I stand on the rear peg, I am not going to get it up in second?
Damn, I really hate those. Well, I can't do them but have tried a few times.

if your gearing is stock... go about 55 to clutch it up. but u really gotta whip the throttle, and maybe even lean back some

im still practicing 2nd... its a bitch

ive noticed that if i only use my index finger, i snap the clutch alot faster, but for some reason i just feel iffy doin it cause i usually grip the bar with only my index finger and use the other 3 on the clutch , i feel ass backwards doin it... but every time i use my pointer finger it comes right up

so maybe u have the same problem i do... just try to snap the clutch a lil quicker

and be careful... the first few times i got it up in 2nd i got a lil too excited and gave it more and more thottle trying to hold it longer and longer, 2nd gear is easier to control then 1st but the throttle responses are very different and you are traveling much faster

a goofy landing in 1st becomes a tank slapper in 2nd, u know just like i do that landing hard in 1st at 60+ isnt pretty, ive already scared myself landing in 2nd at 90 ... so just giving u the "brace ur self" warning

if you are trying these seated i have noticed seat position has alot to do with it. if you scoot your butt back as far as you can comfortably, also try bouncing the front end a little by jerking your weight forward on the grips then jerk up as you clutch it. this should help, changing gearing helps more than anything like mentioned above. im not sure how the seat feels on the F4I but i scoot all the way back until my ars is touching my solo seat cowling. then clutch her up. keep practicing and stay away from the fuz... hefty fine and tow where im at.

just remember, gearing is not the secret answer to doing wheelies.

jwp6114 -> RE: Second gear on a 2000 F4i? (8/12/2006 11:24:43 AM)

you cant say that it dosen't make wheelies easier.

no dought they can be done well without gears but the engine doesn't have to work as hard to get her up with them.

Err -> RE: Second gear on a 2000 F4i? (8/12/2006 12:19:46 PM)

never said its not easier. just pointing out that if you can't do a wheelie with stock gearing its probably b/c you're not doing something right. you can do anything on stock gearing it just takes a little bit more practice.

i personally think it makes it harder to learn wheelies if you start out geared. much more twitchy than stock gearing. just my personal opinion.

back on topic: go practice more, give it more gas. 2nd is a lot smoother than first so you need more to get the wheel up. try it standing up.

2000cbrf4 -> RE: Second gear on a 2000 F4i? (8/12/2006 5:38:01 PM)

Thanks everyone. Yeah, it is geared stock. Second, seat position for me is wrong. I set all the way with the narts against the tank. Just feels like I have a better grip on the ol' tank. I will try scooting back. I have not bounced it, just tried throttle/clutch. I do use my indez finger only, as I always use this method. I am just really bored with first gear. Clutching, power ups, balance point, steering on highway on rear wheel seems almost as natural as 2 wheels. Just wished I could get the rpms down for one reason, second is being able to raise it up while running 60. (Of coarse all this takes place on a deserted runway, I promise.) (Fingers crossed) Thanks for the info and keep it coming. I will post my progress.

i had ur same problem. i also have a f4 (stock gearing) and got showed up by my friends gixxer. I do staggered. bend ur knees and stick ur butt out. feels funny but works. I go at 50 mph. same as clutch in 1st but just hold the clutch a little longer and give it more gas. snap that sh*T and it should come up. keep ur arms straight because it will shake when it 1st comes up. and just practice like the others said. Just have to get over tha fear of pulling it up while standing. keep at it . took me like a good 30 mins just to even get it up. very frustrating. stick wit it

oh. cover dat damn rear brake. good luck

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that the F4i's didnt come in to production until 2001.

Get some balls and rev it higher. Read the other 8000 threads about wheelies and if you still cant get it, give up. Wheelies aren't for you.[:D]
