From what I understand, the rear shock can be changed for Penke or Ohlins ($900) and front forks can be changed to other bikes (954 or possibly Hayabusa, which are also pricey. You change the springs and fluid in the forks for much less. If I mess withbthe suspension, that will be my first choice.

FYI-I used Fastlap and bought a pair of slip ons for my 'Bird-good suggestion.

Thanks, I saw in a limey rag... an entire sp-1 front end w/ wheel, achieved w/ minamal stem machining. I see racetech makes "gold" kits for fork internals. I've also heard... 'birds, don't like progressive springs, up front. I'd love to have "ohlins,"= nirvana!!!!!!!! I'd love to get a 'bird... SOOOOOON !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clean and free, Ripp'n

On my blackbird I just used racetech 90lb springs with gold valves. That stiffened the front right up. Made it nice for handling. I had 81,000 miles on that beast.

there are inverted forks for the xx. once upon a time there was a company that was strictly bird aftermarket it was www.blackbirdspares.com based out of the uk. i think they went under but they had a link to a company that built a custom bolt on invert fork kit. i hate to say i dunno where to get it cuz i woulda grabbed em by now but here is a pic anyway.[image] [/image]

anytime man, as i have said before i live and breathe this bike, im 19 years old have no job and have basically wasted all my money on it hahahahah. but i find it pays off big time. Though it may be hard to find there are some great turbo kits, swingarms and awsome lazer cut billet stuff for the bird. you just have to scour long and hard. most of the stuff is out of the southern states like yanashiki, or out of england. in the UK the xx is practically a cult bike. and ibelieve in some place they still make them till this day.

I haven't done any upgrades yet but there are quite a few that can be done - Yes you can put on a complete RC51 front end with some minor mods like new triple clamps etc but you also have to delink the brakes and change master cylinders ( CBRF4 I think ) to get the right amount of pressure. Traxxion make a new replacement cartridge for the front forks that is supposed to be very good, then there are different springs and valves available from Ohlins, Racetech, Hyperpro, Eibach etc. As for the rear if you have got the money you can go for an Ohlins, Wilburs Hyperpro or Hagon shock and springs to suit, or you can modify a 93-95 CBR900 shock and get a spring to suit from one of the spring manufacturers. Also http://www.jaws-motorcycles.co.uk/goody.htm sells rebuilt and upgraded BB shocks.

Well I did the conversion to a 93-95 CBR900RR shock about 2 weeks ago and it has transformed the bike - no longer am I getting jarring through my lower back like someone is kicking me up the arse. All up it cost me $497.15 AUD which is ~ 1/3 of an Ohlins or Penske here in Aus, I still have not had time to muck around with settings - it is on softest preload, 1 turn in from softest comp and 1 turn out from hardest rebound , , ,

I've got a 041 rear shock and progressive fork springs from HyperPro that will be insalled soon.
