Hey guys,

I've had my 954 for about 2 months now. It's used and has about 8000 miles on it. Great shape, never dropped as far as I can tell. The bike has been perfect up until yesterday. To be honest with you it might not even be the bike, but I just want your opinions on this.

I've had the same tires and gear from the day I started riding, but I just noticed yesterday that over 50 miles per hour the helmet shakes vigorously. My neck is sore as hell when I get home and its hard to concentrate. I still have the same sized head and the helmet is just as tight as when I first bought it.

I don't notice any shaking in the bike per say but it be something I'm absorbing with my body. I really have no idea how to deal with this. Any suggestions?

do you have a double bubble windscreen? if not that may help somewhat.

mmm no double bubble but the thing is this just sort of started happening yesterday... do you guys think its the bike or is it the helmet? one guy asked me if I thought it was possible that the straps for the helmet were coming loose... does that sound plausible?

Helmet shake is not the fault of the bike. I've heard many people mention this about their various motorcycles, so it has nothing to do with brand, model, etc. I believe the double bubble screen just helps to protect your head from the wind that is causing the shake that you're experiencing by changing the flow of the wind across your helmet. I've never had much of a problem with it, but I have a fat neck, so I think it just absorbs all of the shock from it. I think some helmets are designed to minimize head shake, and making sure that having your helmet on tight (I've never heard of straps just loosening up) can help.

Its definitely the helmet. When the wind goes over and around the front fairing and/or helmet, it creates turbulence and this is what is causing your head to go back and forth. Shoei RF-1000 helmets and other similar helmets have an air foil on the top of the helmet towards the back to help cut down on this turbulence. A double bubble-shaped windscreen will also help to guide the air over your head.

okay so I'm gonna look at new helmets then... what should I get? I'd like to spend less than 250 but I know that can be difficult... I really love the HJC Carbon Fiber helmet but 400 a bit steep right now

www.scorpionusa.com Has some good helmets and they're made with pretty good aerodynamics. I was using the HJC helmet I got with my bike the other day and it had horrible shaking problems on the freeway. I've never had that issue with my Scorpion Exo 700 or the 400 for that matter (crash tested the 400 on my last bike on the freeway and it works well).
