i am all for riding in your limits and i have riden at like 140 at the highest but i only have twice and i felt comfortable personally i like going slower and just hitting a 100+ rarely on highways with little or no traffic... the twisties are a hell of alot more fun than booking down the highway imho... oh and +1 to blackdawg on gearing up you never know when some a$$ hole is gonna cut you off or turn in front of you doesnt matter how safe and well you ride it only takes one person not to notice you or to think they got enough space to take you out and personally i like my skin a lot and would like to avoid losing any of it not to mention if i survived a crash and happened to kill someone that guilt would be worse than dying imho

Here Here, this week,I got suckerd into (again)... "way too fast", by... me. It's really easy to go 150+...just slide a round in the cylinder, and give'r a spin !!!!!!!!! Thats what it really is... attitude, ability, animals, debris, traffic, weather, bike maintanance, fluid spills on road... the list just never stops. I went through a spree, about spring , where I never went anyplace, w/o 135... NUTS!!!!!!!!!! And I seemingly could'nt( didn't) want to slow down. after about 1 1/2 mo. I begain to even look at motorcycle fatalities, on the web, desperate to "wake up"!!!!!!!!!! I'm an addict in recovery(6 years) and the speeding was( IS) just like using for me... THEE rush !!!!!!!!! It's like hump'n a female tryranasourous, w/ PMS, hop on... one HELL of a ride, and hope you get your's, before she get's her's (ME)!!!!!!!!!!! Ya, way too fast... I'm sevearly suseptable... at 49!!!!!!!!!!!!! I encourage all ( ME), to pick and choose wisely, 'cause no one ever says" I think I'll Die, today" If you have watched my latest focus on the forum... I'm hit'n up the blackbird people and single focus liter bike people, on what to "really" go fast on... I think I need to look again at my motives and ability, to be reasonable, Honesty, is my valued friend. God, help me, I love to go fast and Quick... But ,I really see the "odds" are stacked against me ...by the varibles, the road. Clean and free, ( still sick!!!) Ripp'n... the name, says it all !!!!!!!

Ok, we all understand that everytime we get on our bikes we run a risk of getting killed and our familys will greive (sp) and so on, but there are some risks that you have to take to live your life. Riding at 2x the speed limit isn't smart, but most of us have done it more than once myself included. Everyone makes dumb decisions and then you learn from your mistakes, or not and you keeping making the same mistakes until sometime you learn from them. But seriously anyone can die in your sleep, or walk across the street and get hit by a car, or drive your car through an intersection and get hit, but these are risks that you have to take almost everyday. I ride for the freedom and the feeling of being out in the open and getting all of the looks as you ride past people, especially little kids that think your a god when you ride by them. But riding at a high rate of speed isn't going to kill you, its the other obsticles that will. You can come on here all you want and preach about wearing gear, and riding the speed limit, but your not going to change anyones mind for them if they are already set in their ways. I'm sure everyone has heard the saying "I'd rather not tiptoe through life to arive saftely at death" Sorry but I'm going to "live" my life to the fullest extent that I can and if you don't like it you can change your ways, but not mine. If you want to go out and ride without a helmet, go for it. I'm not gonna stop you, but you know the risk. I ride within my limits and I don't try to force myself to do something that I feel is beyond my limits, but there are people that do that and no matter what you think you can do for them 95% of the time your not going to even make them think twice about it. And about the running-My brother just tried this about a month ago and its not treating him real good. So far he has a felony evasion, riding at night without a liscense, and 128 in a 55. Right now hes facing 3 years in jail, over $8000 in fines and e few other small things. He ran for about 8 miles and then got lost and ended up turning out right in front of the cop car that was chasing him. He stopped and took of his helmet and clearly told the cop he was done and put his hands up. The cop charged at him and tackled him to the ground and drove his knee into the back of his head as he was cuffing him and screamed "do you hear the f**king sirens now" 3X. Then he put him in the back of the squad car and he spent the night in jail. Now he has a laywer and its only costing him $5000 to get out of the felony and the other charges. My brother is a smart rider and he thought he could get away, but he made a bad decision. But I support his decisions and just told him that I'm glad he didn't wreck and end up in a body bag. He learned his lesson, but sometimes that what it takes, IMHO everything happens for a reason so no matter what you get yourself into sometime it will help you out in the future. I'm not trying to piss anyone off, but just saying that you have made your points more than once and everyone knows what could happen if something goes wrong and we don't need to hear the same things over and over. -Jesse-

I only posted once... ooops, this makes twice!!!!! Clean and free, Ripp'n AW Bull****, I try'd to shut up... remember the previous reply... I've only gone 140 twice, but felt comfortable...gee'z... shades of me, early in riding realy fast. In retro... not exactly an " experienced" prospective. A person may hear about ,live'n life, but were not talke'n about that... were talke'n about... tempting fate... repeatedly. Yes, just pull'n out, in the morning does too, but 150???... Cops are doing a "thankless" job, people screw'n off, and screw'n up, the vast majority of public contact. Fight or flight takes over, in a pursuit situation, on both ends of the deal. Bad settup for all. I don't want that cop, that busted your "smart rider" friend, to aproach me, for a blinker out... Kind of ruins it,for all involved. What started it ????,... Will say'n, I'm just glad your alive... realy convey the imense lack of the bigger picture??? Carefull ,perhaps there could be less insightfull people here, that might try the fast way out. Perhaps another nail in the coffin, to all riders. Do we want those dang speed camaras everywhere, that ruined the UK??? There come'n... and how will we convince them, there not needed???? Ripp'n

it maybe just what i have noticed but there are usually a couple of types of people that go these speeds, one is like my son in law who dosent have a bike right now but every time he borrows ones he fells compelled to go as fast as he can to make up for the time he hassent riden one. the other is the guy that's new to riding, i say new the first 6 months of having a sportbike.I think after you ride everday for a few years you don't feel the need to do this.Maybe it's because your have gotten your fun in other ways, more safer ways.

SPORT bike.......NOT I have a small d!ck and I have to compensate by riding everywhere like it's the USGP and I am in first place. (this is not aimed at anyone in particular) Because you have it, doesent mean you need to use it all the time. I have said it before and I will say it again. Any dumba$$ who slings a leg over a sportbike can twist the throttle and bust out 130+. That is NOT what these bikes are made for. They are made to carve corners with precision. They are made to stop on a dime, get thrown into a corner, then accelerate out with the front tire skimming the pavement under full acceleration. They are not for immature speed junkies to attempt land speed records on public byways. Some of you are ignorant enough to forget that the majority of the drivers in the US have NEVER RIDDEN a bike. There will come a time when they get sick of seeing some jackass in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops race by them in traffic. Then when they go to the voting polls and there is a resolution on the ballot to outlaw sportbikes from public roads, mom and pop are going to vote yes. BAM, they instantly prevent hundreds of morons from killing themselves and take away a hobby that mature adults have enjoyed for almost as long as there have been cars on the road. I am sure the AMA would sell out sportbikes in a heartbeat if it would save Choppers and Cruisers. I forgot. The majority of those that are clicking off 100+ on public roads really don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. Finally, if anyone is offended by anything I type, OR is getting tired of hearing the same old sermon from me. Feel free to not read any of my posts. Thanks,

+1 blackdog. The road is not a racetrack - if we treat it like one we'll be asked to piss off. We're already seeing it in Canada as the insurance rates are being driven up to the point many people are leaving the sport. It might not be many years before I'm a track only rider... I've got a few friends that have gone that way and they're still having fun. Aside: I just had a good weekend - private closed circuit - I never hit 130mph, but I sure did have fun. I managed a somewhat hairy but fun lap that involved a little wheelie. Came up out of a hard left hander full onto the throttle in second, she skimmed 8" off the pavement the length of the straight (75'?), set it down for a quick easy right and hard on again going into third she popped up again... it was a hoot. Something magical about it... No cars - no kids - no animals... just a few loons set free on a private circuit. None of us hit any of these top speeds talked about here but we had an absolute blast.

because it's a sportbike doesn't mean you ride it 140 plus in a straight line... the way the bike is designed is more for track racing...and not straight line speed... i don't see an extended swingarm coming straight from factories, etc...if it was meant to go straight and fast, they'd design it that way...so take your argument about cruisers and straight 140 speeds elsewhere... why don't we talk about fastest someone has gone while laying a knee to the asphalt?

hayabusa, kaw zx-12, kaw zx-14, cbr1100xx, all of these are sportbikes. some may argue they are touring bikes but generally are classified as sportbikes. i dont think any of these were purpose built for road racing. the honda civic wasnt intended for anything but gas mileage but damned if i doesnt do a good job of road racing and drag racing with the right mods. to each his own. im not bashing anyone who road races their bikes on a track. in fact i applaud it. i wish i had the same opportunitiy but time and funds hold me back from it. im just working with what i have and all i have right now is a drag track about 20 min away so i tune my bike for this without trying to compromise handling too much. if people are going to go 150 down a busy road, they know that is stupid and nothing we can say can change that untill they learn their lesson.
