Isn't it amazing how everyone gets a huge e-penis in a thread like this? I hit it now and then. Love to feel the adrenaline and speed, but always seem to shake my head and say, "shit, that was stupid". Too many crazy people out there. Even secluded roads are bad for animals. Just search around and you will find the video clip of the guy hitting a dear while on his bike. Noobs need to listen to the advice of the experienced riders. Experienced riders need to show respect for the noobs and talk to them, not down to them. Teach them-but do it in a respectful way. Younger people today don't like to be pushed to do something-they will only push back the way you don't want them to. No one on here should act like their shit don't stink. We all have stink. We all have done something stupid. So bring your nose down, and realize you are no better. And to end my rant, if you are going to pull some stupid shit, don't come on here and make a post about it, and not expect to get flamed for it. (Not saying that was your intention in the first place).

ORIGINAL: turbof4i hayabusa, kaw zx-12, kaw zx-14, cbr1100xx, all of these are sportbikes. some may argue they are touring bikes but generally are classified as sportbikes. i dont think any of these were purpose built for road racing. You are correct. The above mentioned bikes were not designed for road racing. There were designed for drag racing. This is why they come with a longer wheelbase than the Superbikes. The fact that they have softer suspensions, comfy seats, and good wind protection just makes them good high speed touring bikes. quote:
the honda civic wasnt intended for anything but gas mileage but damned if i doesnt do a good job of road racing and drag racing with the right mods. You do realize that they also road race semi's right? Anything can be modified to do Anything with the appropriate application of fabrication and cash. It will also get schooled by a vehicle that was designed from the ground up for it's intended purpose. I am a fan of sport compacts, but I realize that if you stick a stupidly modded Honda Civic on a formula 1 track it's going to get embarrased. Likewise if you place the same crazily modified Honda Civic on a Autocross track and run it against a shifter cart. Lastly in case anyone misunderstands any of my posts. This is all purely academic. I don't get all emotional about internet discussions. Life is too short for that. I simply attempt to bring a difference of opinion to light and discuss it in a civil and intelligent manner. I post in threads like this because all of us were young and stupid at some point, and many of us have lived though it by the skin of our teeth. I now have more to live for than an adrenaline rush. At some point your priorities change and it becomes more important to be there for your family than it is to see how fast your bike can go. I just hope that by including my point of view it may help some of you to think before you act and be able to survive to the point that your priorities change. Other than that, if you want to top out your bike on a empty highway, go for it. Just don't kill anyone else. Bikes can destroy a car and kill everyone inside when operated at extreme speed. I have seen the aftermath.

600's can be very potent in drag racing as well. i personally drove a gsxr 600(feels way slower than my f4i)with just an extended swing arm to a 10.60 at 126mph in the quarter with just 2 teeth down in the front and a slip on. hayabusas at my track typically run around 9.50s. i dont think this is very far away for having over twice the engine. the fastest one runs like 8.90s with a very light rider and extensive engine work. all modern bikes are quick in a short distance. if the straight races were a half mile, the busas and 12s would definately be king. i personally like the light feel of a 600 and all there is in my area is drag racing so i guess im stuck. with the turbo set up i plan on running at least right with the busas so that i guess would be an accomplishment. i just want to showcase my craftsmanship by building a quality turbo kit that no one offers and making it have really good results, not to prove 600s are good for drag racing which i know they are not intended to do. you say you are a fan of sport compacts but most of them were not designed to do half of what people do with them. yes they race semi trucks but dont you think it is a great accomplishment when they turn a lap time as fast as some cars? blackdog i respect your wisdom and opinions but im not ready to turn in my youth yet.

i ran a 10.2 with a bone stock 2005 zzr1200r which is a de-tuned carbureted zx 12. zx12s usually run like a high 9 stock and busas are in the 9.60 range. when lowered of course. drag racing is big in my area so people know how to drag bikes well since thats the only competitive sport in the area.

When you ride your bike on the street everyday, you know what you can do and when you are pushing too hard. Every once in a while I think it's okay to FLEX the bike the way it was intended.

Lower gearing = worse gas mileage, righer RPM, more emissions, bad sales Take a look at how many cars can do 150mph. The stock gearing is a compromise for best acceleration and comfortable cruising at highway speed. It's a simple matter to re-gear for personal preference or for the track you are going to run.

Does anyone know the optimal rev range for mpg though? If we did, we could certainly pick sprockets for that ;) This is a -1,+2 (15-47) REAL speed (not indicated) chart of my F4 for each gear. Thumbnail Image

ORIGINAL: Blackdog F4i Take a look at how many cars can do 150mph. alot less then u think and just cuase it says 150 does mean it can. personally i never when over 80-85 miles an hour according to my bike but that is really like 70-75 cuase my speedo is off. i use my bike as a cruiser and just to commute back and forth to work and school. i honestly feel no need to go faster then that. personally i love accelerating hard but i dont really push the bike hard when it comes to that. i would also like to state i dont find my self to be remotly experinced or even good at it yet i still have a long way to go. if you ask why i bought a sportbike over a cruiser i wanted the experince and the bike was cheep my next bike will be a cruiser or a touring bike sorta like the bmw tourning bikes. i would love to improve my connering skills but will have to wait till next year to attend a more advacide connering skill class.

About 4K or so seems to get the best mpg, but that's a guesstimate. quote:
alot less then u think and just cuase it says 150 does mean it can. Really? I thought that since the F4i's speedo reads 999 that is how fast it went. I have been driving and wrenching on high performance cars for awhile. Give me at least a little credit. Most modern large displacement Sports Cars will meet or exceed 150mph. Even the new Chevy Impala will do 142mph verified in the Michigan State Police testing. Hell with mild mods I am sure you could get a Dodge Durango or Chevy Tahoe to do 150. I don't think I would want to be riding in it at that speeed, but that is beside the point. Top speed is not a game for 600's. They are still within the reach of cars. Their only advantage is acceleration. A well setup sports car with stick rubber can even corner better. It just can accelerate out of the corner like a sportsbike.

Sometimes it seems like some people on here don't really want to teach others from their experience, they just want to berate and say "Look at me - I'm better and smarter so do it my way or you're a dumb ass!"
