I have what I think is a fast bike for its age. 1987 1000 Hurricane. I have launched it down the 1/4 mile track here and know how many mph it will do acording to my speedo. What I would like to know, is there someone here that has actualy been clocked on this bike, that has the figures? Will this 1000 Hurricane run in the 10's? I am pretty much stock with only an after market exhaust.
Thank's B/T

just for comparison, a guy in our bike club ( the fastest one so far) has a 05 GSXR 1000 and is running a 10.8 at 130 another has a RC51 with NOS and is running a 11.2 at 125.

the GSXR is modded ALOT though too

115 if you are launching decent should put you around 11.6-11.8 in the quarter. The hurricane you ride was corrected to like a 10.80 with a professional rider so you would be doing good to run an actuall 11.30 or so. Proably around 120 mph.

yes, sorry to say but your friends dont know how to race....if they could improve on their abilities, then they would see alot faster times...

I went 10.77 @ 130mph on my 03' R6 with a slip-on and a strap....

And I have a friend that went 9.8x at 14X mph on a 01 GSXR1000 that was very close to stock...

Ok, you young Cowboys need to fill this old fart in on something. You are talking about a front strap. I think I just put that together. Does that help keep the front end down? If so what do I need to get and what areas on the front end do I hook it to? A picture would sure help me. I said I was turning around 115 but my biggest problem was keeping the fornt down in 1st/2nd and sometimes 3rd.
As soon as you kids are done laughing at my stupidity please fill me in.
Thanks, BT

http://secure.cartsvr.net/catalogs/catalog.asp?prodid=2744208&showprevnext=1 check that one out.... yes it is a strap to lower the front end it mounts from the caliper over the triple trees to the other side caliper and its like a ratchet tie down you pull on it and compress the front end..

look at the thread http://www.cbrforum.com/m_146592/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#147477 and read what ClutchBurningRacing says!! i would listen to him.. hes in the 8's

and also--- i TOTALLLY CUT AND PASTED THIS FROM CLUTCHBURNINGRACING--- i hope you dont care clutch..

"The front strap keeps the forks from extending during accelaration. when you launch all of your momentum goes to the back and the forks extending helps the weight transfer. With the strap it keeps the forks from moving = less backward momentum= less wheeelies. "

this is why i joined this forum! lots of good questions and answers from a diverse range of riders. my freind dwight just found an old 1000 in some guys garage and paid hardly nothing for it. cleaned it up, fresh batt and carbs cleaned and drove it right to the track. that was his first time down a drag strip. before going home i gave him a list of web sites ( including this one ) to find parts and info on his bike. last i heard he was looking for a swingarm and stuff.

Tons of 411 on this forum. Thanks for the explanation on the strap.
