Ok this next question is for Limpz.

I got my GPS unit moutned on my bars(Garmin E Trex legend, i think you have the same one), kinda like what chain's picture shows but not a permanent mount like that.

Heres the thing... After riding for about 45 min the damn thing shuts off! I took it on a trip in my car (332 miles) just to get accustomed to it and it worked just fine. Now when its attached to my bike it seems to shut off all on its own. The batteries show that they are still 3/4 charged and it kinda pisses me off because if you turn it back on and if your are not standing still it wont load up any satellites. Has this ever happened to you on your trips? Just curious

CAUTION!!! on the max speed readout... a cop can use it to give you a ticket... or even impound your bike if it locates where you did it. If you a 100 miles from the nearest track and you did 120MPH 10 minutes ago.. you're done... I heard the horror stories. Same goes for camera mounts... if you have focus on the speedo on a public street you're also done.

Not to offend but this sounds like an urban myth to me. In OH and I am willing to say in all the other states in this great country a moving traffic viloation like speeding has to actually be viewed by the officer writing the ticket or at least viewed another officer like one who viewed in an airplane or helicopter overhead . Who's to say you didn't have your GPS with you on your last plane flight to Vegas;-)

I have used my GPS every weekend for the last three weeks, placing it in the top of my tankbag ( which is clear) and using it mostly to record how many miles my trip is and to confirm my speedo ( which is 5 mph too high at highway speeds!!), check my max speed for the day, moving average, ect...
I have not had a problem with mine turning itself off unless the batteries are dying. I set my GPS to use "large numbers" so I can glance down and see my current speed..my ride yesterday cover 290 miles and my top speed for the day was 117 MPH ( do not if that is accurate, I do not travel at that high of a speed for very long or very often)
There was a trip a few weeks back up in the mountains that I must have lost satelitte conection for a bit, because my top speed that day was 367 MPH!!!!
I also load the maps for the area I am going to be in, so in case of emergency I can pinpoint where I am and call the ambulance, police, fire, ect and give them my exact location (great for riding in the groups I have been in, never had to use it thank goodness, we have had between 11-18 people per group every weekend)

I fly for a living & use GPS daily. Totally awesome!!! Just got a Garmin 396 for my plane. It has weather radar, XM radio, etc. Has an auto kit. Rechargeable lithium battery good for about 4-5 hrs. Just gotta figure how to get her on the bike. Having the radar you sure won't get caught in a rain storm out there.

Quick Question...

Is there a system that you can mount on the bike (hide it) and go to the computer to track it if someone steals it??? Cause my buddies gsx-r 600 was stolen 1 and a half weeks ago. So now im scared for my cbr. I live in Orlando FL. and the bike crime is outragious out here. I would love feedback if anyone knows of a GPS system like that.

Yes there is, do a search for "Motorcycle GPS tracking" and you will get a few different links to services for what you are looking for.

Not to jack this thread any further, but...

In response to the moto-locator: I was watching Two-Wheel Tuesday a few months ago... prior to Daytona Bike Week and they were talking about a motorcycle version of the LoJack (sp?) system that is used on cars. Might want to check that out...

Anyways, good idea about the GPS. I may have to pick one up and see how it works. I hunt a lot here in Michigan too and that would come in handy for that as well - marking good hunting spots, finding the nearest bar before I head out with my rifle, etc. It would be nice to be able to use it for all four seasons!

here`s the one I threw together with some aluminum (old speed limit sign) and it doesn`t get in the way of anything. Its not the most beautiful thing but I don`t know what I would do without it.
