Hey guys, so lately when I accelerate briskly on the CBR the engine completely dies (and sometimes back fires) almost like I hit the kill switch. and it won't start back up for a few seconds after the oil light comes on. Sometimes I have to completely pull over to the shoulder to restart it. Please I need help with this. I doesn't seem like a wiring problem because everything works at idle and low speeds, but once I rip on it she just dies after a couple seconds. Seems like something isn't balanced correctly or like the pistons get "stuck". Lately I've been paying particular attention to letting the engine warm up before I take off. However the temp gauge never really gets all the way to the mid-range unless I'm in stop and go traffic for a long time. any help would be appreicated. thanks!

well, i would say it is a fuel issue. maybe running too rich since its backfiring? typically means too much fuel and the backfire is the excess getting burnt up in the exhaust.

Yeah-- have to agree here. Everytime you are pulling on the throttle you are really just flooding the engine. You need to take a look at the carbs. Clean them, inspect the jets, and do a table sync. Check and make sure the air mixture is set correctly.

Thanks guys, makes sense since I think the choke cable doesn't fully disengauge so it's still on a little bit. That would def cause it to run rich. I didn't think that it would cause the engine to completely stop though, thats just crazy. well I wasn't planning on doing this stuff till the off season, but if this keeps up I'll have to take a day and just get it done.

you have to realize that if the fuel/air mixture becomes too rich/lean you will lose combustion, hence your bike dying. fuel requires air to burn, if there is not enough air, it wont fire. kind of like putting a glass over a candle, the flame will go out once the oxygen is burned up. same concept.

makes sense, I just never thought it would get to the point where the engine would just die. Looks like I've got some more work for this weekend.
