Thanks NOE for that posting!! I will try it to see if it gets rid of my cold engine rattle. Shame on Honda for having all these issues with this bike(rectifier, CCT, non adjustable forks, etc). Honda off road rigs are much better built and stand up to some harsh punishment. I would be scared to get anywhere close to redline on the CBR, I am scared something new might break. I had an old 1986 gsxr 750 and I would (in my younger years), have that thing screeming, bouncing off the limiter and it begged for more, no weak components to worry about. I will switch back to Suzuki soon after I get rid of this bike.

Cor blimey - I just popped out to do the balancer adjustment, with the result my bike sounds more like a sewing machine ! I've only had it for a few months but have noticed an increase in engine noise and i'd put it down to CC/CCT or valve adjustment. It's actually very simple for me cos i've got no fairing to remove. Hell, i'll probably do it once a month ! Thanks a bunch :-)

CBRmario: You don't have to worry about anything breaking in the CBR. It may make some noise and rattle from various parts, but all the macanics I have been talking too, and that's quite a few, says that the Honda don't break down easily! You can ride it easy or hard, it dosn't matter, the bike will cope with it. Mine get's whiped often, and there are no complaints from the bike what so ever. It dosn't even use any engineoil... So trust the mighty old Honda, and you shall be rewarded!

Funny how the bike shop didnt know about this eh !! Anyway its done and it quieter than my mates CBR 1100 Blackbird, thank you very much. Wazza

Have done over 100 Ks today no noise motor seems to run a little bit hotter I suppose because the chain isnt slack anymore but motor sounds clean not rattle rattle just say the noise of a new motor. Can you over tighten these ??? and if so can you damage the motor or does it wear in ?? Wazza

I Just done mine, Do you do it running or engine stopped, mine is now quieter, It turned all the way from the 3 o’clock position to nearly the last marker at about 12 o’clock and I back it off one and a bit marks. Still a bit of noise when cold.

You can overtighten the balancer. I talked with my mecanic regarding this issue, because I had the same fear. He sais that as long you follow the Honda service mannual, it shouldn't go wrong. Just remember to back off one graduation from stop when you tighten the balancer. Another way of doing it, is according to the Blackbird manual. (It has two balancer shafts) Here the bike has to have a warmed up engine. Tighten the balancer until it starts whining, then back off until it stops. Don't go so far back that the ratteling sound comes back. Just in between. Check the bike for whining sounds or ratteling sounds troughout the revrange before assembling the bike again. I have done that to mine and it seems to work. I can hear the balancer shaft whining a bit when the engine is cold, but when warmed up, the whining disappears, and only at about 3000 rpm there is a slight rattle sometimes, but nothing bad at all, and many times more silent than before... Bottom line is: Wether you do it one way or the other, it won't ruin the bike, just follow the manual and back off one graduation when adjusting and you will be home safe. Thats what I have done anyway... Waz: Im glad you could use the description I made !

MarkR: I guess that if you do it according to the Honda manual the engine has to be stopped, but the blackbird way with engine running... I have done both, and they both seems to work. I think the ratteling sound when cold, is the CC, not the balancer. If it disappears when the bike gets warm, it has to be the CC.

The first time the bike was cold and stopped engine, Worked fine. Second time, engine warm and running, worked fine also. (the Blackbird way)
