Good discovery Noe, my engine is quiet now. The previous owner changed the cam chain tensioner with no difference in noise, that really discouraged him.

Just one question - how does the balancer shaft come out of adjustment in the first place given that it is held in place by the pinch bolt?

The balancer shaft can't move, there must be some wear that occurs creating space.

Great help from Noe and co, pics and everything included , I also have a very slight rattlling like described by others but since my engine has only done 26,000km it should not be the the CC or CCT yet. I will give this a go and get back with my results. Over and out.

Kenzor: It's a scale on the balancer adjustmens screw.

Nelson: As far as I know, it's because the balancer shaft is driven by a small chain, and over time that chain gets loos. Just like the CC

Went for my first ride after the adjustment, and holy crap what a difference. Engine vibration is completely gone, so is the noise - except for a little whine only when cold - it seems to accellarate smoother, but that could just be my imagination because I'm so pleased. If I ever meet you Noe, I owe you a couple beers.

WOOT!!!
I went ahead and did my adjustment this afternoon and the noise has completely gone. The bike also seems like it runs alot smoother. Thanks all for the tips, its like some amazing "make your bike run like new screw". One thing though, there is a slight whine as described previously. I adjusted it the one graduation as described. Should i be worried about this and adjust it further? anyway, i have taken it for a few short rides now and have had no probs. Very good.

I did mine and the gear changes are less clunky, still have a bit of noise, I think i didn’t quite adjust it right so next time I will adjust it while hot and running so I can hear the difference and pick the best spot for normal running.

That balancer is a gear directly engaged with the main drive gear on the crank, no primary chain. The adjustment you're making is an eccentric shaft altering the depth of engagement of the balance shaft gear with the main crank gear.
