I've ridden a lot of other bikes but this is my first ownership. I'd have to say that I wouldn't recommend it for a loved one. But I wouldn't recommend street riding for a loved one who was a newbie either. Too much to think about when beginning. Dirt bikes and 50s make good training tools. (Hmmmmm, I may start looking for a fiddy).

I soo want to get my boy started on a fiddy. Then he won't have these issues. Expecially if dear old dad is buying the bike.

motocross bikes are by far the best tool for teaching traction limits, throttle/brake/clutch control and how your body position effects the motorcycle. i had 5 MX bikes before i ever owned a street bike.

Sounds like you have made your choice. Good luck. If you are anywhere near Evansville, IN let me know I would be happy to try and help you get the hang of it.

I say go for it. It is my first bike and I love it. However, I've been riding since April, so take it for what it is worth. I bought mine used and I would suggest the same. You can find a used one with low miles for $4000-$5000. The most important thing before you buy any bike is to take the MSF and get your license first. Also, if you are worried about dropping it, take the fairings off and ride it like that for a while. Once you get some road time under your belt, slap 'em back on and you're good to go.

I have to admit, I bought a new F4i this year (two months ago), and had my wife back into me a week ago. If I had a used F4i, it would be less painful!. However, I still do not think it is too much bike for a "smart" beginner. Buy a used bike. The one thing I was concerned about was laying a new bike over...it definitely happened!

I guess I just still don't understand how "respecting the bike" gives anyone the skills to handle it.

This was my 2nd bike. Started on a Kaw ex500. I'm loving this bike. I would have to say if your considering getting one, respect....respect....respect the bike. It has suprising power and can get away from you very quickly.
