i think i need to adjust my valves but i dont know how. i replaced my carbs and my engine still runs like crap. its soemtimes hard to start. i use the choke but the engine still dies out while starting the bike has 48,000miles on it and i dont thaink the las idiot who owned it ever took care of it. i got a clymer manual but it doesnt seem like much help. does anyone know how to adjust valves.

480,000 MILES????? Damn, Im keeping my Honda. Surely you mean 48,000. I dont personally know how to adjust the valves, I could guess, but havent done it. Feeler guages and I believe the f1's are shim under buckets? If you're having that kind of problem, I would doubt it's the valves. Are you mechanically inclined? If not, just take it in, cant be more than a $150 or so. Sorry this is not very much help. I would look into the carbs more, or possibly weak coils?
