Is there a source for that brownish/gray engine paint used on the clutch and stator cover of my F4? Hate to buy new covers just to cover up a little wear.

If you're gonna touch it up, you might as well paint the whole thing whatever colour you want.

Well, you are right. I would do that, but the color I want is the original color. Does anyone know where to get that.

The original color is powdercoated, not paint. I'm sure there is a paint color that is close enough to it that it would match pretty well, but I'm almost positive they powdercoat them from the factory.

I had the same problem with my 02 F4i. Scratches on the gold/brown/slightly green stator cover. Try Color-Rite.com. I took off the lower cowling taped up around the stator area and just sprayed it a Gloss Black. It blends in with exist color on the cowling. Except for us enthusiasts, you would think it was stock.

if you are going to try to rattle can it, i've got a bit of advice.

first off, scuff up the powdercoat on it as good as you can.  Use a decently abrasive sand paper to steel wool.  Then, spray a self-etching primer over it before you paint.  You can get it in a rattle can, and it helps promote a 'decent' bond.

good luck
