hi folks,
i am a newbie on this forum and would like some ideas. heres the deal: have been riding since 3rd grade, have owned several bikes & currently ride a vfr 750. but i need a lil more "pop". i have admired the cbr 9 since the 1st gen, but preferred a more comfortable riding posn & really liked the '94 vfr 750 when it first came out. its looks were killer!

anyway, i now prefer the looks of the 954 especailly versus the more conservative looking 1000. i do however like the sweet underseat exhaust on the 1000! but that is about the only look of the 1000 that i like vs the 954. ok maybe it's just the front end styling that i don't like on the 1000 - typical honda, mundane looks comapred to the other literbikes. i am seriously considering getting the yamaha R1, but i have NEVER owned anything but honda. so that would be pretty major for me to jump ship.

i prefer the lightweight of the 9 and have always liked the fact that it was amongst the lightest in its class but now its almost the porker with the added weight & becoming a 1000. (tho the 1000 has more power stock).

so if i can mod (cheaply) the 954 to have as much or nearly as much power as the 1000, then i will def get it.

so that being said any cbr 9 owners or anyone know what mods can be done which are most effective to get more power with out adding too much weight?

thanks,
kahlil

Yeah, 954's are sweet looking. I really like the colors and designs. 3 reasons I went with the 1000RR...

1. Undertail pipe, you know it looks sweet.
2. rear aluminum swing arm looks dope. No other bike compares.
3. I did not like the fat ass on the 954.

dayum i can't believe its been TWO years since i began this journey & I'm happy to say i FINALLY got my bike!  i got a 2002 954RR  red & black (my fav color scheme).  so far i'm pleased with it; got a good deal on it i think, but am concerned with maintenance...

it has 21000 miles on it, micron exhaust, techlusion TFI, frame sliders, chromed frame & wheel rims, modded air intake & tinted windscreen & a few other goodies.

To get the the anwser yes you can make the 954 just as fast as the 1000rr it will take a little time and money but it can be done.
But as far as thet goes witht he right amount of money and the know how you can take a 600 rr and make it almost as fast as the 1000rr  again it just takes cubic dollars.
I run with a guy at Bryon that is running mid 10 sec on a 600.  but again cubic dollars. . . . .

I forgot to say  just remember that anything you can do to a 954 to make it faster you can do to a 1000. too you need to sit down and look at what you want. I feel the 954 looks much better then the 1000 over all but the 1000 has some cool stuff on it too. IE undertail.  so it will come down to what you want.

thx TK.. guess rich hadn't noticed that i just bought the 954 - 2 years later!  :)  lol!

thx rich your words are well heeded. & my main concern at this point id the already installed TFI on the bike. it seems to ride fine without hesitation nor bogging down nor any problems with engine thruout RPM range. this is in spite of either negative stuff i have read about it being installed on this bike or at best maybe moderate appreciation.  i'll be going to have it tuned soon at a local shop & see if they will dyno it as well & see whats up. but so far i am STOKED!!!
