sounds like the majority runs premium, i was just getting bashed on another thread for using it.....

Haven't had anything else but premium in mine. Seems to run smoother in my car too. But premium does burn cleaner, so the extra .40 cents or so per tank to fill up is something I don't even think about anymore. I think about this. High Performance Machines deserve the best gas. I keep Harmony happy, she keeps me happy, lol.

This is one of the most understandable quotes I've ever read about high octane fuel (written by the same guy who has the CBR with over 120,000 miles with nothing but standard dino oil in it):
"Octane is a value used to indicate a fuels resistance to spontanious combustion from compression.
Octane numbers are based on a scale on which isooctane is 100 (minimal knock) and heptane is 0 (bad knock).
Octanes can be higher than 100.
The heat value of a fuel indicate how much power the fuel has.
Consider the octane & heat value of ethanol, it is make roughtly 66% the power gasoline yet has a much higher octane.
Gasoline has an approximate value of 125,093 BTU’s / gallon with an octane of around 89.
Ethanol has an approximate value of 76,375 BTU’s / gallon with an octane of around 107.
Mix the 2 at 10% and you'll get 93 octane gasahol with less power than pure gas.
Octane and power are 2 completely seperate things.
Ok, think about this. You could add water to your gas tank. It would be stupid but you could do it.
What would happen. Well water has a great octane rating, it basically never ignites even under extreme compression.
You could say it's octane is around 1 million or so. So now you're ready to start you're bike. You want to experience all that power
you've got now with you're 1 million octane. WTF, the bike won't start. Yup, you got it Einstein, water has about 0 heat value.
Things with 0 heat value make really bad fuels, since they don't burn.
And now for the finally. ** Octane doesn't equal power. **
I sure hope a few lightbulbs are going on in this turnip patch."
Continued from someone writing high octane fuel is cleaner:
"Complete BS. Higher octane gas is achived by take regular grade gas and adding crap to raise the octane rating.
Higher octane gas will leave more deposits in your engine."

Until I see proof of this "added crap", I'll still continue to pump Premium. If Premium is good enough for a Dodge Viper, It's good enough for me.

Have you looked for proof, or are you waiting for it to just fall into your lap...I see the light bulb didn't go on in your turnip patch...do some research...you'll see

I do not run premium, the manual says 86+. I just listed premuim cost b/c my car requires it and that's what I bought last. Don't waste your money on premium for your bike- unless it knocks. Premuim is not better, just stops knocking. You should get better milage with 87 anyway.
