ORIGINAL: Evan_CBR Simply Amazing...how many people advocate violence as a good measure to solve a problem. The point is...the streets is not a free fire zone and assaulting someone with a helmet can get you into "big" trouble no matter what the reason is. Despite the driver's foolish acts, you were not hurt...and your response can get you both criminal and civil charges. Again, from your story...you were both wrong (legally). But I am not here to judge, we all lose our temper and have to deal with as best we can. I just think that your reaction can work against you far worse than what you did to him. I am from Philly, and given the amount of people who illegally carry firearms added to the people who are licensed to carry firearms, I would think twice about running down and challenging someone...with a helmet. Cause at the end of day...if he had a weapon, he would have been totally justified (by law) to use it. So. I hope you learned a lesson as well before you put yourself in a position where someone else feels as if they are justified to resort to violence. It's cool to vent steam when it's in a direction where you can't get yourself burned. Ride Safe. Actually if james had his gun handy, he would have been justified in using it... Assault with a deadly (car) weapon, provides you the opportunity to defend your self... But hey you go ahead and turn the other cheek...

But hey you go ahead and turn the other cheek... He would have definitely crashed trying to pull a gun while riding a motorcycle. Any other assaulting action would have been considered illegal given he survivied the incident. With that said, would you rather turn the other cheek on your face, or your rear-end in prison. Many "tough" guys are doing the latter.

ORIGINAL: SirJAG Well said Evan, To be honest, i am not sure what my intent was in posting. I was mad, a little shaken up, and i wanted to tell people about what happened to me and see what they thought or might have done in my shoes. In the same situation: probley would not do the same, but who knows? About 3yrs ago i was in a very bad wreck in San Deigo CA. a little black sports car hit me, pinched my between the gruard rail on the interstate at about 75mph. Then drove off and left me there.... long story short, i was in the hospital for 5weeks, in a Wheel chair for 8months and crutches after that for almost a year. 12 surgeries total to put me back together. now that i ride again i am very safe, and make a point to not ride crazy anymore (used to put some DVD's out with my old crew). and i dont know, that asshole really got to me like no one has in many, many years. Keep in mind that the lane splitting i did here was with all the cars stopped on the rode and only at about 4mph, just tying to get home out of the weather. Geez!!! I didn't know all that happened to you before. That puts things in a whole different light. I can see why you got so mad. Like I said, everyone is different. And as I said before, I am not judging you... it is just that the legal system is something hard to get out of once an incident puts you there. Been there. I hate to see anyone get caught up in something criminal given that they (as was your case) were minding their own business until someone provoked them. Glad to hear you are OK and man, that was totally unfortunate about what happened to you 3 years. Hell, I got mad reading it. Ride Safe.

ORIGINAL: Big Kahuna Well, as a member of both boards (and many others) I don't know why you are so surprised that your actions received such negative responses. I know I've made many poor decisions when riding/driving and even let my anger go a little too far on occasion. But what you did is totally inappropriate and antagonistic. You chased down a guy who "wronged" you and attacked an unarmed man with your helmet. Was that the right thing to do? I think most civil people would think not, but I think most people are bothered by the fact that you continually mention how you don't feel bad about hurting the guy. It's one thing to admit you flipped out and lost your temper, but it's not as forgivable when you follow that up with you not feeling any remorse. Frankly in today's world, you're lucky the guy didn't pull out a gun and shoot you dead. Which in his case would have been simply self defense. Given SirJag's past experience. I can somewhat understand why he did what he did. That does not say that I agree with it, but I can definitely see how a series of events led up to that explosive release of frustration. But you are right, things could have really gotten worse.

SirJag, I just finished reading the responses on 1000rr.net. It seems like they're a bunch of tree hugging hippies or something. I can understand how they could disagree with what you did, but I don't get how they wished jail time on you and stated you need psychological help! That's ridiculous...I bet they all live in Bel-Air or Beverly Hills where there is absolutely no violence; they do indeed seem overly SENSITIVE. Keep this in mind...We're all adults now and we are responsible for our own actions. Nobody makes you mad. There is no such thing. You CHOOSE to be mad. Therefore, you made a decision and you have to accept the consequences that come with it. What you did was wrong and you even said that you know it. I bet you won't do it again, and you better not, otherwise I'm telling your mommy. You're lucky you got away with it. Glad nobody died. That idiot got what he deserved.

That idiot got what he deserved. +1 I don't think anyone here is condoning violence... However, a car is as, or more dangerous, than a bullet, and the driver, by analogy, pulled out a gun and shot at him - although he didn't hit him it is the same thing. (when a suspect drives a car in the direction of a police officer on foot, every officer draws a weapon and fires until the driver is dead). Which is why i am having difficulty in sympathizing with the driver and condemning the actions of james. If james were my child, and i saw some asshole run him off the road, I wouldn't be telling james "hey now, that fella almost killed you, be mature" I think most parents would be too busy beating that guys arse any which way they could...
