Try second.

Also bikes are dam hard to pushstart unless you are sitting on the seat so there is some weight over the rear wheel.

Finally the cbr wont push start unless there is at least some juice in the batter to power the CDI.

Did you try putting it in second or third gear? First gear has too much mechanical advantage to turn the motor over. Using second or third gear reduces the torque of the motor... plus it'll turn the motor faster than if the bike was in first. You said the starter went out?.? You can try tapping lightly on the starter with a small hammer and try to turn it over. Sometimes things wear out and lock up, but usually they wear out and get in a bind before they lock up. Tapping on it might loosen it up. If the battery is dead and you don't have a battery charger handy our bikes run on a 12-volt electrical system. So do most cars... you should be able to use some jumper cables to jump-start the bike also. Hope this was some help. Just don't try to pull start it! I knew an idiot that did it with his dirtbike. When he dumped the clutch the bike finally started and did a wheelie in =to the back of the truck at 45mph! The guy was alright but it's kinda funny to look back on.lol! Good luck on getting your free-be running!!!!!!

The engine should turn slower in second.

I would put it in 6th just to see if the motor will turn over, are you sure the starter is not seized and engaged to the engine
and you do need some charge to the battery for the CDI, but I would be a bit concerned about if the motor is not seized before worrying about batteries and stuff

put the bike in 5th gear, get it rolling clutch in and let the clutch out. if it still locks up, the motor may just be seized.
