MY 87 1000 HAS 45K ON IT. MINE RATTLES ALL THE TIME. I THINKING OF JUST REPLACING THE CHAIN AND TENTIONER. OTHER THEN THAT THIS BIKE IS REALLY GREAT. NEVER A PROBLEM.

On a previous bike I replaced the cam chain cos it was rattling but after a breif thrash the tensioner snapped and seized/wedged the engine. My advice from some who tried to be cheap is its not worth all the hassle.
Pay a few quid and get both the chain and tensioner replaced and get it serviced.
