On the left and right rear side panels on the 600 Hurricane there is a slot at the end of each panel, do these slots have a function?

is the slot located on the inside or outside of the panel?

the slot is on the end of each side panel.
top grove i guess you would call it, under the tail fairing.
I would say the slots are hidden under the tail fairing, inside.

Is their a shim of some kind that conncets each side panel to the rear tail fairing?

Does the rear tail fairing attach to the frame only using the 2 mounting holes?

Thanks John

there should be 3 pegs, or screws to attach the side panels. one in the rear, one in the front by the fuel tank, and one mid way bottom. some covers had push pegs similar to door panel clips, and others have screws. i dont know specifically what you are talking about. how bout some pics?

hmm...

the tail section is in 3 pieces, left side rear, right side rear, and seat cowl just behind the seat.

i believe you are asking about the areas circled in red? if so, then these slots mate up with the tabs at the bottom of the seat cowl. well, the tabs that should be there if they are not. it just keeps the bodywork together at the edges.

if its what i think it is, the groves on the 2 rear side pannels sit under the rear pannel above the break light. that is what holds them in place. does that make sence?

ok. yeah the little tail cowl should have little fins that rest inside of those lips.

Thanks Michigan_313

That is the slot in question!

The reason I ask, is that I purchased a new tail fairing from Airtech item number CBR612
http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/hondaz/CBR600F1198790.htm

The Airtech tail fairing does not have the pins or pegs to mate with the OEM side panels.

I was wondering if anyone here has a solution for mating the Airtech rear fairing to the OEM
Honda side panels.

Thanks John

well, the easy way would have been to get the airtech supersport race tail since it mates the 2 sides and top into one unit.

this is what you get for aftermarket, not quite oem.

question, does your seat cowl have the lip that slots into the side panels, or are you missing those? does the airtech panels have the grommet pegs molded into the bodywork? eh, nevermind. i just read the bodywork descriptor off of airtech site. it says "Fabrication of mounting tabs will be needed to mount this panel onto your bike." so it has squat for tabs.

okay, question, does the inside of the panel have anything? any markings, high points, or is it just a smooth shell surface?

i'll take a pic of my panels tonight and post for you tomorrow. it will show you how bodywork is supposed to mate up and look tab wise.

my only solution for any of this if you are missing tabs (inside and edge) is to build them up using epoxy. location of tabs inside and edge will be a different matter. i'll post some pics and you tell me what you are missing and i'll try to come up with a solution.

I have OEM Honda side panels with the pegs that use grommets.

3 grommets per side, 1 on the tank, 1 on the frame and 1 on the rear passenger peg set rack.

My OEM side panels pop right into place.

It's at the rear fairing and the side panels where it gets a little loose and I was wondering if anyone has corrected this problem using the Airtech product.

Thanks John

look at these two pics. one is the tail cowl, and the other is the solo seat cowl. notice how the solo seat cowl has the tabs, and the cowl does not. I would do like michigan said and either build them up with epoxy, or use Plastex.

i hope these pictures show you what you might be missing. i don't know what tabs, if any, the aftermarket plastics have or not but these pics should give you an idea of location.
