03 954.
added a bolt on Scorpion pipe and a K & N air filter.
thinking about getting a Power Comander III from a guy that wrecked his 954.
he wants 200 for it.
i have a very basic idea what the power commder is supposed to do.

1. can someone tell me exactly what it's supposed to do?
2. is it really worth it or just something to spend more money on?
3. i found a new one for $254. is $200 too much for a used one?
4. what other accessories should i be getting from him (i.e. mapping instructions)?
5. is it easy to find mapping info on the net?
6. can't think of any other questions, so any other info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

well used is basically new unless it was abused because all it does it let you tune it.. does nothing by itself remember that, so you will need to purchase it and then d load a map, but if u are looking for real smooth powergain.. get it custom tuned, will add 1-5hp average witha good tune, i had a scorpion pip, k&N air filter, and a PCIII with a custom tune, 130hp before and 137hp after, depends on ur money situation if u want to save 50 some dollars, are u sure it wasn't wrecked in the crash?

I got it mostly to smooth out the power in the 2800-3400 rpm range and improve overall response. I'm glad I did. It has worked out well for me even with the expensive price of a REAL dyna-tune custom map. I think I went up about 4 rpm on the top end.

just talked to him.
he states the bike has been down a total of 4 times, but repaired each time.
blew the motor or cracked something around the motor recently causing it to leak oil.
decided that now he wants something new. probably the 1000.
the bike looks good. everything seems to salvagable and in proper working order (except the motor).
fairings - good, seats, cowl, wheels, rims, pegs, upper fairing and brackets all good.

seems like if i pay $200 i should just add an extra $50 for a new one and the security of knowing it's not damaged.
if i can talk him down to $150 that's another story.
