Well it might be cold but I'm gonna make sure that any dry day, sunny or mild then I'm out. Cant see the need for speed but to beat the traffic, yeehaa, sorry, but it's got to be done. Sat looks good here.

Well, at the prices we in Denmark pay for our bikes, we tend to nurse them a bit more that others...

Yep. Thats a big thumbs up from me. Will only park her up when they start salting the roads, dont want that nasty S**t getting on her bodywork, that would upset me big. So hoping for a frost free zone with a mild winter.

I'm in the UK and do not lay up my bikes over winter. However, I don't ride in the ice, snow and wet weather during this period. I save the riding for those crisp days when the sun is out. These days are usually very cold though so I cut my normal routes down to around 50-100miles with regular stops to warm up. It goes without saying that thermal long johns, gortex etc are required.

Unfortunately, just riding on days like these (which of course have to be on a Saturday or Sunday when not at work) can still mean a month with no riding. During such times I simply start the bikes once per week and let them run at least until the cooling fans have kicked in. This keeps the carbs/injectors clean and so on. I also use Silkolene Pro FST or similar to keep carbs clean. I know it may sound sad, but tasks such as this, charging the batteries once per week and doing some maintenance are enough to get me through the winter!

Roll on March is all I can say

Just arrived home, not impressed, the gits in yellow trucks have been out and gritted the roads, makes you laugh, its still +3.5 degrees, so looks like a late start on the roads. I hate it when they try a spoil my fun

The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is full sun and + 10 degrees C :-) I believe they will be right since I’ll be on a trip not able to use the bike :-(

After a bum start today got on the road at 0930. Not to much traffic so was able to open her up and give it some. Done 190miles along with the usual tea breaks and had a good ride. Starting to go grey now I'm back home, but I've had some fun, hope for the same tomorrow, as the forcast looks good.

The one consolation with the colder weather is that the bikes run beautifully, plenty of air at road level to feed the airboxes and the cold temps keep the engines cool. Shame about less grip available etc etc. I find though that by the time Spring is back around, I have got used to the style of riding required for the cold season. Yesterday was my first proper cold ride and it always feels weird at first being bulked out with multiple cloting layers, winter jacket and trousers + winter gloves. I soon get used to it though. In some senses the satisfaction of squeezing a ride is greater than during the Summer - it just seems to feel that bit more special to have given the bikes a good run at operating temperature to keep them from going into deep hibernation. I've never been one to go through the laying up procedure outlined in the owners manual (pouring oil down the cylinders etc etc). As I said before at the very least I just run them in the garage for 20-30min once per week and have never had any problems. THe only real pain in the neck is condensation on the bikes during those damp spells.

I agree, but did'nt have to wrap up to much today, made the most of the sun, and can live with the cold, just try to avoid those idiots with misty windscreens who cant see you properly. Looking forward to tomorrow.

It was 35 F when I went out today... I was damn near sweating the whole ride - then I remembered I'd left my vest turned on hi.

I'm going to be riding until the salt comes... which will be the first real snow day. I'm hoping that's mid to late novemeber at the earliest.

Woot.

Yep, the weekend in the UK has been spot on once the sun has got rid of the frost. I've been thinking of one of those electric vests to keep me warm for those seriously cold runs.

That sounds like a good idea, must look into getting one. Went out yesterday around the local county with a friend and found that the roads were very good. 3pm saw the temp drop down very quickly, time for home. Can't grumble got 80miles out of it so lokking forward to the next run out. Anyone else in europe make it out still or has the cold started to get in yet?
