I'm not to far from the duals, but its a right pain when there's dew on the roads alongs with the farm tracks. You dont need snow here to put her on her side. That said, its still nice to be on two wheels.

for heated vests in the UK see:

www.exo2.co.uk

Apparently this is the best one out there. It uses a new polymer material which heats up evenly and therefore does not use wires.

Aye winter has arrived in the UK alright. That with the switch from BST to GMT - means it's dark when I drive home from work now. Cold and dark. My bike is the only transportation I own, so i'm a year round rider. One thing (apart from the obvious ice) to watch out for is gravel washed onto the road by heavy rain. That stuff can catch you out big time. I'd quite to look at some hand shields - the sort you find on trailie type bikes, that would keep the wind and driven rain off my hands.

Some people put the trail bike brush guards on - with a street fighter that could look pretty cool.

Other people go with hippo hands ( http://www.hippohands.com/ ) I personally go with wind/water proof gloves.

In your situation I think these would be REALLY cool:
http://www.texasoffroad.net/forum_php/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=classifieds_gear_forsale&Number=384052&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

They fit in the bar ends and mount to the bar past the clutch/brake lever mounts. Paint them silver and fill them with sheep skin ;)

We had a max of 33C on the coast, air-con was on in the car.
Thinking of replacing the tint on the 4x4 with really dark stuff, going to Charleville for Xmas, going to get fried (still a month and a half away from peak heat).

Man I really feel for you guys suffering in that stifling heat !

Hey woot, those guards are just the sort of thing I have in mind. I'd need to try fitting them up first - I think it's likely the brake/clutch master cylinders would get in the way.

Peterk - my round trip to work and back is about 50km - 30+miles or so. I'm quite lucky cos it's through some of the most beautiful country side in the UK.

Well, it's not too cold today so i'm going to do a little routine maintenance - plugs and air filter change.

I thought that the riding season was over here, but today on the 26th of November it was plus 11 deg C and sunny. It was a lovely trip four a couple of hours, and I stopped for coffee at Grandmothers apartment. She is living on the 5th floor where I took a picture evindence from the balcony. FYI, it is not the 5th floor of General Motors headquarter even if it looks very much the same . In fact, the place is nice but the mobile camera and darkness did a good job hiding that.

Next trip will probably be picking a white beard on and deliver Christmas presents by bike on the 24th of December

The weather is still inredible nice here, this weekend on the 10th of December, I took a long trip and positively tested a new rear shock and the overhauled fork. I have never heard before of any Swedish person running a sport-tourer at this time. They say it is the warmest winter here for at least 500 years. How do they know? I don't.

Yup, I'm still out on the bike in this cold winter.  Actually, it's not that cold, but compared to our hot summer it sure feels it.  I've just popped outside and there is frost on the cars.  Riding on slippery salted roads isn't a whole lot of fun, but I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't ride the bike for more than a week or so.  So the Saturday trip to Bury St Edmonds is a life saver for me.  Sadly winter usually wears the rear tyre out in the middle because you can't lean over very far.  A slide when nearly vertical is manageable, but with big lean angles it's really difficult to save.  I guess the upside is that you improve your riding skills for when the grip returns in the spring .  I'm not a happy bunny at the moment 'cos I've got a trapped nerve in my neck and the arms out head up position is really painful.  So slippery conditions and a painful riding position are spoiling the fun somewhat.  But compared with riding a bike, what else is there???? Ah yes, a warm comfortable car with heated seats and a good hi-fi.  No, no, don't do it......

Woke up this morning to find snow all over the roads. I pondered for a minute, then decided to go for it. What the hell I thought, I used to when I was 18. Got in to work, with about 2' worn off my boots. Fun though :D
