So I'm curious if anyone has any experience here using these sets from eBay. I see 'em listed all the time, but I'm curious if anyone here has used them.

I'm open to opinions and suggestions. I'm just thinking that if a budget chain and sprocket kit will last a season, it's worth $100.

Let the opinions fly!

P.S. I'm also curious about the cheap chain cutters on eBay... they're like $30. Will I get a couple uses out of it for the $30?

Boy, my frugle side is really showin', eh?

Oh come on, no one has used these sets?

I am the only cheap bastard here thinking of a way to save a few bucks?

What about the chain cutter? Any opinions there?

Not sure which set you are referring too, but one item I never skimp on is a chain. If you have ever spit a chain at speed, it makes you a little tentative. When I did, I was going 60, the chain lodged between the swing arm and wheel, locking it up. I did manage to keep the bike up, but in the on coming traffic lane. YIKES!

Anyway, I am know extra careful about chain, lub and adjustment.

I'd did the Vortex 520 quick acceleration kit on mine last year. It cost about $135 off ebay and looks to be better quality than that. I liked the chain and sprockets quality wise but I wouldn't go so steep in the gearing. I went -1,+3 i think and i lost all top end so i went to a -1,+1.

How much can you really save on this? Sprocket Specialities has top quality stuff for aalmost the same $$$.

I agree, Chain, Tires, Brakes along with a helmet will save your ass. It saved my head a few times, although some say the two are just the same :)

I don't know about the Ebay sprockets either, but, I too went -1, +3 and, as stated, lost ALL top end. You end up doing 1mph per 100 rpms. Not fun if you want to cruise at any speed over 70.

This is strange, I can't find the web site anymore. They are located in Northern CA, and I've ordered from them before. Can they be out of business?
