I ran HID on a previous bike and LOVED it! You cannot believe how much more you can see with one. Had 15K miles on it when I sold it and it was still going strong. A true HID should use less juice than a halogen. Ballast converts the 12V into like 480V but doesn't draw as many amps.

let's help this guy out...he's trying to find out where he can get them...well I want to know too...so help us both out.

You can get H7 bulbs that will replace your stock bulbs. They will be a little brighter and different color. Or you can get the real deal, an HID kit, which you'll need ballast and ignitors, and you'll have a bike with spotlights...lol

Here is a link to "MECCATUNE" Website. This is a company that specializes in HID conversion kits as well as Halogen lighting, it doesn't look like there is an option on their website to place an order but there is a "Contact us" so if you are serious enough about getting it, give them a call and I am sure they'll answer all your questions and tell you where and how to purchase it.

Or E-Mail them at: meccatune@nate.com

You can also contact your local motorcycle dealer and maybe their suppliers can provide "MeccaTune" HID Kits.

Here is a picture of a 04' R1 with the "MeccaTune 8300k HID Kit " installed & A cool CBR-RR Taillight kit that has your tail light, stop light and turning lights integrated.

whats the legal limit? i was told only to install HID conversion on lowbeam and leave high beam alone bc it would be too bright. but im concerned that it will look funky...

chainstretcher -> RE: HID headlight conversion (2/27/2005 12:54:36 AM)

No funkier than running with only 1 light on most of the time -- of course that's due to Honda's funkiness. Of course I understand why. The generator is only kicking out 340 +/- watts at 5K rpms. Hi/low at the same time draw 110 watts. Only leaves 240 for ignition and blinkers and recharging battery.

L8X -> RE: HID headlight conversion (2/27/2005 5:08:11 AM)

is that enough, yeah i know it only runs one side usualy, but i saw r1s running both headlights and it just looks cooler.

chainstretcher -> RE: HID headlight conversion (2/27/2005 8:08:20 AM)

Ya, that's enough -- stock bulbs draw 55W each (110 total) the HID's only draw 35W each. So you'd actually be using less power to create more light. With true HID's I think you could prolly aim the hi beam a little lower to keep from blinding oncoming traffic and still be able to see better than with stock. An important safety reminder would be that even if you can see for 10 miles at night if the cage coming at you is blinded you're ass is still grass.

that '04 R1 picture is awesome. those lights look real nice.

L8X -> RE: HID headlight conversion (3/3/2005 2:25:10 PM)

does that blind oncoming traffic?
