Here is a list of what I really need for this bike immediately:
1. Both upper and lower INNER fairings.
2. Set of passenger pegs.
3. Upper Cowl.
4. Rear Fenders. (the ones that I have are for 98, pictured above)
5. Right mid-fairing.
6. Upper stay for mirrors.
If you have any of this that you are interested in trading for the rear sets let me know.

I can tell by looking at your frame that it's a 96-99, so don't throw those rear fairings out with the bathwater just yet... your motor may be a 95 though, does your clutch cover have an oil window? or do you have to use a dipstick to check the oil lever, and does the front of your tank mount to your frame with 2 bolts or 1?

notice how the area behind the triangle cut out in this 95 frame goes straight up and down with the back part of the rest of the frame?

you're doesn't appear to be like that, it looks like it has more of an angle to it, like the 96-99's, and that area behind the triangle cut out tapers as it goes up on 96-99's, it stays the same width on 93-95's

more pics that more closely resemblee the angle of your pics(more pics of your bike would help btw)

93-95 frame---- notice the consistent width in the area behind the triangle cutout

96-99 frame--- area behind triangle cutout slants forward and tapers as it goes up

even though the angle of your pics kinda mask it, I'm still pretty sure you have a 96-99 frame. Your stator cover isn't mag though, so I think you have a 93-95 883cc motor...

Ok, upon further inspection of the frame and such I noticed more peculiarities. The first thing that I notices is that the motor has stamped on it 919cm2. I thought that those motors were in the later 900's. I am not sure about the oil window, I think that I recall seeing what resembled a dip stick. The fuel tank has two holes on the front for mounting and a single one on the back.

I will take more pics when I can. Thanks for all your help.

Sounds like you definitely have a 96-99 motor and frame. Above the clutch cover, on the case (right side of the motor), is a stamping number. The second set of numbers determines the year of the motor: -200_ is 1996, -210_ is 1997, -220_ is 1998, and -230_ is 1999. I got this information from RRZone.com, when trying to determine the year of my motor.

wow and the dude that I got it from swore that the bike was a 1995 900rr. Is there any way that if this frame was manufactured in late part of 1995 but has the 96 look?. He is a deputy here in Missouri, he told me that he ran the VIN and it comes to a 95. Is there something fishy here or am I reading too much into all this?

I will look late tonight when i get home as to what the stamp numbers are on the engine case? Is there anyway to tell whether or not the engine that I have is the one that was with this frame originally?

Is there a way to tell the year of the bike by the VIN characters, like you can look at the tenth digit of a car VIN and tell what year it is?

ok, silly questions, but do you have the title? Does the title vin match the vin on the bike? What year does the title say?

Ok, here is the skinny on how I got the bike. The bike is a recovered stolen vehicle. Since the numbers were filed of the frame and the motor, I cant be sure of the year it actually is. I have the police report and have spoken to the State Highway Patrol Inspection Officer and he informed me that I need to make the bike roadworthy and have it inspected by them. He will then reissue a VIN # and a Certificate of title. That will cost about $30. Then I will have to have it state inspected for normal licensing. Seems to be confusing but, really not all that much trouble for a bike that I have roughly $500 in.

Wow, I wish it was that easy in Florida.

Did the tail section you show in the pictures, come with the bike? If so, I would guess that it is a 1998 or 1999. If not, with no vin number or stamping on the motor, it's going to be hard to tell, 1996-1999.
