I just bought a 06 f4i and am planning to do a riding school in the spring.  I have OEM dunlop sportmax tires and was wondering if anyone has taken them to the track.  I'm definetely a beginner at the track and don't plan to going to extreme.

They be just fine your first couple of times out on the track - after that you'll probably need to replace them becaue you'll have worn the sides down to the wear bars.
Are there better tires for the track - yep, but as a beginner you'd never even notice the difference.

I'd start out on a different tire for sure. Some Pilot Powers or some M1s or something. Though I've never tried Dunlops, I've heard only terrible things about them.

Heard bad things?  People that crash tend to blame the tires when in fact it was most assuredly the meat head on the bike that caused the crash.  It's not so much the brand/compound you have at this stage in the game, it's how new are the tires.  How many miles are on them, if any?  They will be more than sufficient for your first few track days.  I used to run Dunlop 208ZR's on my 900RR and could drag my knee as well as pegs when my form was WAY off without even a hint of letting go.  Your F4i is certainly down on power so spinning wont be a problem exiting unless you are a slop master on the throttle.  They'll be fine.
Good luck and enjoy the track day.

+10000000....
people tend to blame their tires for inadequacies in their riding, leaning, throttle, lack of smoothness, bad lines, etc...
i got down with 207s before...it was scary but if you stay smooth, no problems. do not mask lack of skill with better equipment! it reduces your ability to improve as a rider!

OE street tires will be fine for your first couple track days.....look at magazine reviews....those guys are on OE tires.

While I am not a dunlop fan, the "bad stories" are likely idiot driven.  Street tires in general do take a little more time/heat to grip well...so just be patient your first couple laps.  All the track day rubber is good...though I like Powers...grip, price, wear...

If you aren't a knee dragger yet, M1's are a great choice, or Diablo's....as you get faster, Powers, Corsa's etc...

AND...wear your helmet at ALL times when on a bike..this includes taking the bike to the tech for check in and inspection, going to the bathroom, etc...
someone just passed at my favorite track...BW...before trackday even began...he fell off the bike and hit his head...SOOO SAD as it could've been prevented!!!!!!!!

Has anyone heard anything about the difference in between the Pilot Powers over the Power 2CTs?

2CT is geared more fo track...it's like a diablo corsa...but still ok for street use.

if you're doing mostly street and occasional track, then go with just the PP, not the PP 2ct.

he just bought a fully raced prep'd bike from a prof. racer...tires weren't warmed up yet...he was on it without a helmet...somehow the rear broke loose, tossed him and he landed on his head.

I have a video of Toseland lapping Barber on a stock 07 CBR600 doing 1:34 lap times consistantly. (This is damned fast!) Truth is most stock street tires these days offer more grip than most of us will ever use.

But you probably will trash whatever tires you have on the bike in one day so keep in mind you'll be buying a set either way.

Speaking of Trackday tires, the suspension guy I talked to the other day recommended that I go with a DOT Race tire.  He said that if I wanted a street tire that I should go with the Pilot Power 2CT and for setup reasons to not do Dunlops.  He says they're more difficult to setup.  Opinions.

I would be inclined to agree, but then agian I run michilens... But tires seam to be a very personal thing, different manufacturers all have different heights and profiles so what one person likes may suit him or her better than another and may or may not be easier or harder to get the bike set-up to the rider...

But the Michilen power race PRC/PR5 combo rules!
