The adjustment for the balancer is setting the lash between the gear teeth on the balancer. If you look at the exploded view in the manual you will see it better. If you turn it all the way in the space between the two gears is too small and it creates a "whirring" sound, and obviously if its too much lash, it will rattle. Winding it in all the way and backing off one notch as the manual calls for is proper. The spring modification looks good. I hear the Russians make the best springs! Question : If the spring tension on the cam chain is too great, wouldnt that place too much tension on the chain causing it to wear other parts out prematurely?

It's about like putting a stronger spring in a bb gun, you get more power, but it wears out other parts quicker....not something I would do, but then what do I know ?.....I can't even get my bike to charge properly for more than 500 miles...... he he.

It been a minute since I have been here but I just started getting emails about the recent post. I think its great everyone has tried somthing different. I just mnodified the some one else's modification from earlier in the posting I turn the adjustable CCT into a set by locking the CCT with a peice of steel from that used to come with afternarket radios. same principal as early mods just different method. The chain slapping stopped But I have not rode the bike in 3 months so I cant remember what it sounds like 100%.

Looking back in time at the post I saw that Ferlev was my motivation to go into the motor and it was Hailbag's designs that help make my idea reality I had a concept of locking the CCT mechanism because a few years back there was a manual CCT being offered. Being a do it yourselfer, at first I did not want to spend money on the part, and then later could not find a CCT to buy locally or on bike bandit or any of my other sources last year just modified the existing CCT like Hail bag did. I was still scared to touch the engine so it took me 4 months from taking the first bolt off of the valve cover to complete the job because I did not want to lose my baby. One week I just decided to jump in and do it win loses or draw. At the completion the engine took a couple of turns to fire up but she growled to life with no rattle. I felt accomplished and proud and still get a warm feeling thinking about it now. Thank you to everyone I might put the pics on if I can’t find them I don’t know if I took a pic of the modification.

Well definately it will wear off other parts some precents of time earlier, but the same problem is on fixed mechanical adjusting CCT- one can never get it to specified tense. The spring i added is not so strong that it would broke the oil ply between chain and chain slider, so the extensive wearing effect is minimal. Actually i am pretty sure that the pressure between chain and slider in fixer cct is a lot heavier when the engine is doing >10 000 rpm and there is no way of loosening it - with spring there is way of loosening it. And then there is a possibility that slider will run dry on oil, and then fast abrasion will start. Of course the best solution is to put in new OEM CCT every spring, but we all know this is not economically rational and as we are motorcyclists and motorcyclists always repair and modify their bikes itself
