If I were to buy some front rotors that the current owner had mixed up how would I distinguish the left from right? Are they stamped or marked or.....? I'm sure there is something to give it away. They are not interchangable right?

if you examine them closely, they will have a directional arrow like the tire does. Given that your tire isn't mounted backwards, match the rotors to it.
