okay i have a 00 model F4 i was wondering what stock hp was at rear wheel.i am in the processe of change the sprockets(16 front  48 rear)and went to a 520 chain, installed a kn airfilter, puting on a full akrapovic race exhaust along with a dyno jet kit stage 1. will this stuff gain me any rear wheel hp? and if so how much should i get. thanks

dunno about the Hp at the wheel, stock at the crank is suppose to be 110, the parts you put on will defiently increase hp but would have to go get a dyno to know exactly...

Depends what you believe....numbers were from 92-98hp....I would hope for 103-106 with your mods....Akro makes a serious pipe, so a 10% gain is not unheard of. 

But, keep all your stock carbs parts after the jet kit install...if you want to go back, you'll be glad you did.

thanks will keep stock carb parts. i will let u know the hp when they install the jet kit and dyno tune it. i hope to get over 100 hp.

I was at a dyno night with the CBR when I first got it... 3 cbr 600 f4's were there, mine with a full D&D, another D&D and a full hindle. The guy with the full hindle got an honest 102, the other d&d got 95 and mine was way lower at 85-90.

I'm working on mine as I know I can get 95 rear wheel out of it with just a bit of clean up. I know I'm running a bit rich... I know a few people that tune bikes so I'm going to swing by there and get her done properly.

I run a -1,+2 520 and a K&N... Akro makes a great pipe, and I figure you could get to 103/105 rear wheel if you speed the money getting it tuned.

I heard D&D pipes make you lose HP. Just what I heard dont know if its true. And about the HP gains, you would only gain HP with the pipe, filter and jet kit...The sprockets you gain more low end torque not HP, but it is noticable. And for the sprockets you should go down to 15 tooth on the front and 48 sounds good on the rear. Stock sprockets are 16 front, 46 rear.

I do have a pipe, filter and jetkit - but I feel that the bike is rich from the observations I have made...

As you say, the sprockets don't change hp, however, they bring the torque up at the speeds I actually ride the bike... and the hp curve down to the speeds I actually ride - as I don't actually take it to either its stock or modified top speed it doesn't effect me (other than the higher RPM on the highway which is a bit of a pain.)

D&D power loss - I'd be surprised if you actually lost hp, but overall they are a loud pipe instead of a performance pipe. It wasn't my choice of pipe, and it may be replaced soon for a prettier, quieter and more power pulling pipe.

Hindle on the otherhand made a good F4 pipe... and Ackropovic generally make great pipes.

I'm pushing 95 RW horsepower on the last dyno (K&N filter & Two brothers slip-on).
Going to get her dyno tuned this summer & I'll post up the difference (added jet kit, timing advance).  Guess i'll see.

My bike is dyno'ed at 119 at the wheel, I have a stage 2, K&N filter, ported and polished heads, full jaradine exhaust, and a little extra work.  Im in the process of adding a 50shot wet nos system......

Have you got a dyno - I'd like to see that curve. Torque would be ideal, but hp would be nice

    Stage 1 and Stage 2 are mostly bullshit names that people don't understand... You hear a few people throw them around as if you *should* know what they're talking about, and that it makes a big difference. They just represent a kit - that's it. You could just say you installed the right jets/needles for your bike as it is setup currently - or just say jetted.

A stage 1 kit is for a stock or slightly modified bike. Maybe a slip on exhaust with the stock headers for example.

A stage 2 kit is for a bike that you've changed some stuff on - for us it's pretty much only the exhaust as the stock airbox is pretty good.

A stage 3 is available for some bikes... but I don't think for ours. This is a designed for a more tuned bike than ours, potentially running individual air filters instead of the stock box.

Now - for the other stuff. If you think of a bike in three parts - intake, motor, and exhaust. To get hp you want to run as much fuel through the engine as possible. To make the fuel burm you have to have the right ammount of air. Setting up the carbs sets the mixture - lean and it gets hot, rich and it bogs.

The limitation of more fuel  (and therefore more air) is the intake and the exhaust. If you're exhaust is too restrictive you can't put more fuel/air through the engine. After market exhaust and voila more potential for airflow. Some bikes are intake restricted from the factory - some are exhaust restriced.

So you go ahead and install a better flowing air filter. ( don't throw out the airbox as it's very scientifically/carefully designed to get more airflow through it's mouth than would be possible with a straight pipe... resonance.

So far we've added k&n filters, and some sort of full exhaust in our hp quest - we are running nearly $1000 in parts. To make use of the extra flow we've also jetted the bike - replaced the stock needles and jets with some nice adjustable ones perhaps.


Now the intake isn't just the airfilter, and the exhaust isn't just the exhaust pipe. The ports in the engine that bring the air mixture from the carbs to the top of the piston at the intake valves, and the ports in the engine that bring the exhaust from the exhaust valves to the exhaust pipe. These ports can be honed and polished... a really knowledgable person would understand the science here (either from books or practice)  to get the biggest flow through the available space... sometimes that doesn't mean the biggest hole either. So they polish them up, and now they've reduced the restrictiveness here and suddenly we've really got something for airflow.

Now a port and polish varies in cost and advantage from bike to bike. The new bikes are really well built and I don't think you could do that much more... you'd need a really good guy to get the extra ponies here - and there is the possibility you work will be in vain... or worse you loose hp. This is probably going to run you over $500 for a cheap guy and over 2000 for a good guy.

Anyhow - that's the rundown of the air/fuel performance mods off the top of my head.

So. i do have a Dyno jet kit, an Micron Race as the end exhaust, and BMC air filter on My 2000 F4.
this is what is cold stage 2?
