I was wondering if any knows if you can jump start a f4 or not. I only ask because a friend of mine said that the computer wouldn't let him jump start his f4i. So I just want to make sure it is my battery that is bad before I buy a new one. Thanks.

F4's are carbied so I dont think jump starting would be a problem.

My 2002 F4i was giving me battery problems when i first bought it, and jump starting worked no problem. By jump starting I am assuming you mean getting the bike rolling and then releasing the clutch and giving it some gas. Just make sure you press back down on the clutch when you feel the engine turn over or else it might send you flying. I had to do this for a couple of times and ride it for a while before the battery charged decently. I haven't had problems with it since.

That's a bump start I think he is looking for if you can just hook it up to starter cables, I don't see why not...though...

If you "jump start" it with cables using a car battery it is possible to damage the regulator rectifier since it is not made to handle those high of volts..so jump it from another bike if possible. When you get it started check the charging system with a voltmeter..place the +/- cables on the appropriate terminals on your bikes battery and rev it to about 5500 RPM and it should read 13.5 volts or so..if it is then you need a new battery unless you carry cables...if it is not charging..well then you have to replace the regulator rectifier or the stator
