Well, I decided to break down and try to Polish the rims on my 600RR. It worked out pretty well, So I decided to share a few pictures for those who have an RR and are interested. I didnt think there was a need to do yet another write up, but I am gonna post some pictures.

PS (Airplane Cleaner BURNS on the skin, lol)

I post a few more once I get it outside tomorrow.

About 3 hours from taping to finishing.

Left them on. I did it from spoke to spoke at a time on each side. So 3 sections in all on front and back

I was reading your thread and really liked the look of your rims...

So I got a wild hair up my ass and here the results.

It's not perfect and please keep this in mind that the rim is off a 20 year old CBR600F1.

The rim has some casting flaws and some really deep scratches that I was not able to remove with out digging deep into the aluminum.

I am sure a professional polisher would be able clean them up,  I am not a professional aluminum polisher so please keep this in mind..

Did you polish them when you were done?

I used an automotive type stripper I picked up at Lowe's Hardware store rated for enamel paints.

$12.00 a gallon and two application later all of the paint was gone!

No, the rim did not come out that shiny!

The spokes were a rough finished aluminum under the paint, little bumps and divets all over, a smooth but rough finish.

The rim it's self was smooth and shiny, but it had tiny rings or lines that ran the inside diameter of the rim on both sides of the spokes.

And yes I polished, actually sanded!

It took about 2 weeks in the evenings after work sanding for around 3 hours every other night from start to finish.

I started with a die grinder using a ball type bit to remove the lettering and casting fill marks inside of each spoke.

I then used 120 grit sand paper on the die grinder to smooth down the grinding marks.

Then 240 grit on the die grinder over the entire rim and spokes.

Then wet 600 grit using a dremmel over the enite rim and spokes.

Then hand sanding the rim/spokes/hub with the wet 600 grit.

Then I used fine finish auto polishing compound paste on the enitre rim.

Then I washed the rim using liquid laundry soap and that is how she came out.

Not to bad for the first try, the plan is to go ever the entire rim again with 1200 wet sand paper and then polishing compound again if I get the time..

Before I clear coat the rim to protect it from oxidation.

Thanks john
