That write up came just in time.  I was just getting ready to get a K&N filter.  Thanks.

+1 on the bungee cords. I just checked my filter last night. I wish I would have seen this before. Great site.

nice write up, thanks for the time and effort

so you remove the rear bolts that hold the tank?
what keeps the tank from completely flipping backwards from
the bungee cords pulling?

I recently changed my filter, didnt remove them, but had a heck
of a time keeping the tank up.

also, I had a hose that kept popping off becuase it was too short to allow the tank to
come up as far as needed.

yes remove rear bolts of tank
and I slide the tank abit backwards
when you lift the tank the end of the rear bolt area is very close to the shock but it is not touching

shraz, what kind of chain lube do you use?  I will be cleaning my chain after the first ride when the damn snow goes away.

I am amazed thats all it takes to get to the airfilter.  Was there any problems with the fuel lines when pulling back the tank so far?  I plan to do this, but just don't want any problems with busting a fuel line or havingone come off and spilling fuel everywhere.  Would be just short of a nightmare in my garage.

Maxima Chain Wax. It's a good heavy lube for the chain but it tend to make it look dirty.

no... they shouldn't stretch that much
the hose are all at the back of the tank anyways
