Spent the day yesterday doing something I've been wanting to do for a loooong ass time and finally got around to (or finally bought all the parts, rather, lol). I'll let the pics tell the story So as much as I liked how comfy my stock seat setup was, I was just getting tired of the fugly banana look Just my luck, "2006f4ido" on this very forum was selling nearly everything I needed to do the swap! Since my bike ain't silver, first in order was to get the tail painted. my buddy Jonny did an absolutely OUTSTANDING job on the paint! I totally suprised myself... I put the decals on and actually got them [for the most part]... straight! Also with no bubbles or ripples! The Honda decal in the back is ever so slightly crooked though, so gotta redo that one it's gonna drive me nuts Next on the list, the yellow pillion seat. The upholstery shop my work uses was supposed to pick it up from my work on thursday, but they forgot while they were there, so it never happened. Sooo I did this just for temporary use for the weekend. They're picking it up monday morning to be re-covered in black. I used a black fabric paint/dye stuff, actually worked pretty good! Got that done Next thing... 01-03 F4i's had a black frame and subframe, while mine ('04+) had a silver frame. Of course I want it to match, so I take the aircraft stripper to the front (visible) half of the new subframe to make it silver. It's stubborn though, there's still some spots that the paint just would not come off period... gonna have to take the dremel to it Time to start ripping the bike apart Ready to start the install The wiring harness was a PITA to get routed properly Finally got it though And after getting the LED integrator light properly wired, and double checking everything to make sure everything was tight..... ORIGINAL: kodiak1122 Good Job!! Well worth the effort. Me like it. Whats the story on your tank? Lost a fellow rider? Yup, Omar was a buddy of mine, also on our local forum. He lived right across the street from me, rode a 1000RR. One of the most level headed cautious riders you could meet.... never did anything stupid and ALWAYS wore full gear (and encouraged others to do the same). He was coming home on a friday night, and about 1.5 miles before he got to his house, a car turns left right in front of him going into an apartment complex... BAM! And that was the end! Sadly that wasn't the only one, lost a total of 4 riding buddies. First was Omar, then 3 months later to the day, another one (his wife also rides and is on our forum.... she witnessed the whole thing), then another Dec. 4th, which was one of my roomates co-workers and the wreck happened right in front of the dealership where they worked at as he was coming back from lunch, and he saw it...wasn't pretty. Then the most recent on Jan 3rd, another guy I knew and rode with, also good friends with an old neighbor of mine who I also still ride with. Guess this could be the reason I've slowed down alot riding on the street compared to the beginning! Now I just go slow and steady and enjoy the ride, if I want to go balls to the wall I'll go to the track. Kinda puts things in perspective! Anyways back to topic, thanks for all the compliments!! Was alot of work to get it and I've still got work to do. Some of the paint just would NOT come off th e subframe, even after repeated soakings, So that means it's time to dig out the dremel and go to town. Gotta polish the subframe too since it was painted over it never really had a smooth finish. Also I've got the fender eliminator kit that I may or may not put on... haven't decided yet. I was trying to figure it out and it looks like I'll lose the bottom part of my trunk in the back, which I really don't want to do cuz I kinda need the functionality of having it there. If I can figure a way of doing it without cutting out the good stuff then I'll put it on, but otherwise I'll just chop as much of the stock piece off as I can. Either way, still a work in progress but at least the main part is done, now it's just little stuff.
