o my bad, if it for business y do u need to upgrade it???. 80gigs would be fine for business use. and yea thats not a good deal. and yea its SATA(its the type of connection). i dont think u have that. you can get the same thing new for 80 bucks.
160 gig drive for 65 bucks Shipped new. its pritty nice if i wanted 160 gigs.

Thanks man!!! I wanted to upgrade to vista when I could. But the concensus is that I am not able to really. without spending quite a bit plus the program. I need more ram for sure cause its slow as a mule, and I need more space for all the files for work

WD is fine its like the top brand next to seagate. its basicluly the size and the connection type. size is like 3.5" and the conection is IDE. thats about all.

Telgren's link to the recovery disk is gold. That will make the process ALOT easier for you. Note - when you use the recovery disk all of the files on the drive you install it on will be wiped out...
IF I were you - then to ensure you don't entirely fark this up, remove your current harddrive from the system and install the new one. Very easy - just a few screws, and make sure you put the same connections on in the same way. [Now there is one factor here that I haven't talked about before - and it's how to set the jumper on the back of the drive - it can be in several modes, and the mode it is in matters if you plan on having both the new and old drives in the computer later. We can talk about that when we get there.]
Then install the operating system using the recovery CD that Telgren found - very easy - just have to enter a few details it will ask for, like your name, etc.
Once the computer is running then you have to decide how you want to use your old files. If you want you could put the old hd in an external enclosure and copy what you want over to the computer. OR you could install the old harddrive as a slave to either the new hd or the cdrom. Not difficult to do at all.
other notes:
Harddrive physical sizes have been standard for a long time - don't worry about it. IDE is the type of harddrive interface you are looking for. The newer interface SATA and SATA2 are faster, and the technology is a bit different, but for your sake are easily distinquished by the shape of their connectors...

i hate WD as well, they have sucked for me too, even the new ones i have bought. Seagate only baby!
ok, so you have a HP, and apparently Telgren did the work for ya and posted a link. when using that disk it should restore everything to how you had it when you got it, which makes this a whole lot easier.

So, if I dont want anything that is on that computer now, I can use the HD I have now until I can get a new one. Cause I was thinking, Wouldnt ram be something to get before an HD or no?? So I just use the link Telgren found, and follow those directions and it will "be back to new"? Also, can you download/buy a copy of PRO legally or do I have to go to Office depot or somehting to buy it?

i dont know what james was trying to say, but where you get the actual files is not important. what matters is do you have a unique key/serial for the product. Now with a factory system like yours, you want to try and use the restore disk that is provided by the manufacturer since it will contain all the drivers and software necessary to make the computer work the way it was designed to. you could probably call or email MS and they would give you the files. hell, they even some what endorse the piracy of their products since it helps keep it mainstream, thats why they offer support for them, but thats a whole nother topic in itself. that 16 digit serial on your case is your lifeline for legality. now there are different versions of XP so you have to be careful, I have pro running on all my client systems at work which is a volume license (all the same keys) which is authorized by MS. you have Home if i remember correctly.
follow the instructions on that link and you are set. everything on your drive will be erased if you dont move it elsewhere prior to the clean install.

You can buy a copy of pro anywhere. Home being something you already own might be fine for your uses...
Pirated copies of Pro have a number of problems - and not at all advisable for a business computer...
Try reinstall home as you said - and I bet dimes to dollars that you'll find it faster than it was. Less crap, less slow. Then try some more ram... and then consider more hd space as needed.
Are you planning on having the internet on this computer?

Haha, thats great. But anyways, yes, I do plan on having internet, wireless on it. My place has wireless and I was going to get one of those wireless router deals. So, can I do this stuff, the burning of the cd and all from my laptop, then throw it in my desktop, or will I have to have internet before I can do it on my PC?
