Guys,
I pick up my 1000RR this weekend. I weigh about 320lbs. (Yes, I'm trying to lose it). Anyways, in the meantime, I know I need to swap the rear shock. Any recommendations on a make and model?

For your weight your not only talking about a shock unless you are seriously not using it for anything but riding on city streets in school zones. You will need a shock with springs for your weight, and re-valve. So you will want to hook up with a local suspension guy who can get you the shock and do the mods and will work with you. Anything you buy will not be set for your weight, Ohlins, Elka, Penske, etc. Even if they spring it for your weight then the valving will most likely be week for the stiffer spring. Being your size I don't think someone would be able to re-valve and hit on target by mail either. Go with a good local guy that can work with you. That my two cents hope it helps. Good luck. You should also think very strongly about the front, that is a weaker link in the suspension link for heavier guys.

4filapper is correct you need a shock/spring combo. Elka, Ohlins or Penske. The OEM shock is absolutely the weakest link on the whole bike. Dump it ASAP.

Contact any one of these folks, and they'll set you staight:

Be very specific about your weight (in riding gear), riding style/ability, and intended use.

Cheers
