Hi to all. I been facinated by sport bike since as far back as I can remember. Now that I am 23, I am planning on buying a bike. I wana buy a ninja250 for my first bike and ride it for 3 or 4 months. Then sell it and buy a '06 cbr600rr. Would yall recommend a cbr600rr for a second bike? or is it too big of a beast...lol Thanx.

Hye, I think you're making an excellent decision starting on a 250. Now just consider this... Instead of selling it in 3 or 4 months, hold on to it and take it to the track. If you can learn to carry the corner speed and really understand the concepts of going fast on a "slow" bike, think about what you'd be doing on a 600. You'd be smokin' liter bikes with a 600 at the track.

I gotta agree with the others so far. I'm in my late 30's and my son's friends (around 16 and older) always hang out in our garage. I have always told them the same thing. Some of them have 250's, then went to gs500's, then to supersport models. You are making very smart decisions. Good show!

and if you do get a 250, come and join us at ninja250.net - we've got a great FAQ, and alot of really good riders on the 250... many who have kept the 250 and haven't 'upgraded'. Woot.

the only problem with starting small is that when you upgrade (which could be very soon) your left with a "small" bike that you dont want anymore. then you have to try and sell or worse case still pay on and try and buy the 600cc bike. i started on a 97 cbr 600 f3 . great bike , plenty of power, very good handling. i would recomend it as a begginers bike . and you can usually find them pretty cheap . especially if you plan to finance the 250. why be stuck with that debt if you can put it towards what you really want . for some people starting small and working your way up is best, others its ok to hop on a 600 + cc right away. just KNOW YOUR LIMITS , ride safe and have fun !

Buy a used 250 for next to nothing. A used 250 sells for pretty much what you brought it for and is probably one of the safest motorcycling investments. Use the extra cash for gear, the best insurance you can have in motorcycling. An F3 is a far better beginner bike than a 600rr... but IMHO the 250 is one of the best beginner bikes out there.

i agree with woot if you can purchase one (a 250) right out then go ahead. learn on it , have fun then when you feel ready sell it to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps. but if you are going to finance a bike id really reconsider getting the 250 . just because you dont want to accumilate alot of debt .

Good idea. Though, I would buy a used one. Something you can pick up for really cheap. That or you can even get a Buell Blast for like $1600 bucks. Ugly as sin, but that's what I learned on. If there's a Harley dealer (bad word, sorry), they usually have a class called "Riders Edge". EXCELLENT course, tought me everything when I first started riding. We were taught on 600cc Buell Blasts. They sold the ones used in the classes for like $1600 with 400 miles and a couple scrapes here and there. I would go that direction, learn the ropes, then upgrade to a RR later on. But, I will be honest with you.....this is another venue you can take..... Take a basic motorcycle course (not the MSF course, but something like a Riders Edge course, which is about 5 days). Get comfortable on those bikes, then take an advanced skills course a couple weeks later. As long as your are confident and know that you still have a lot of learning to do, then graduate to the 600RR. It's not hard to adapt to the RR, granted you have a good head on your shoulders and are mature enough to know your boundries of skill. Good luck with getting either bike. Just wear your gear and be safe!

Ive been riding bikes for 10 years, mostly dirt tho. I bought my first rodie a little over 2 years ago- a Yamaha szr660 super single. Honestly I dont think a 600 would be a good first bike. The urge to hold the gas on thru corners will most prob get the better of you mate. Yeh sure you can always cruise around and stuff but why not cruise on a cheaper/smaller bike untill you get the feel of it. Personally dood , I reckon the saying is true , we all had to learn to crawl b4 we could could walk ay. keep it real bro and take it easy!!!

Great choice on the 250, I did the same thing 2 years ago. The reason why I chose the CBR600, is how this bike handles. There are few bikes out there that have a few more HPs but they just didn’t feel as comfortable and as responsive Have fun and be safe.

Man, since we're so used to hearing folks desperately trying to just hop on a 600RR or even 1000RR and take off as their first bike, what you're saying is actually VERY refreshing to hear!!! You're already showing maturity & sound judgment -- which will go along way towards keeping you safe & giving you a long & fulfilling riding career. We all want to "retire" from our riding one day...not DIE from it!! Now, I grew up riding dirt bikes & racing motorcross. Then my Dad & I got into street bikes when I was in high school, along with still on the dirt. Now, I'm 48. I got back into riding a year ago & bought a new 06 600RR. I took the MSF course at Road Atlanta (more than just a basic course - 3 days worth). I also bought 2 06 Kaw Ninja 250s that I could learn on & also my 2 sons who are now graduating from dirt to the street just as I did years ago. So I'm riding a 250 Ninja & my 600RR all the time. Here's what I can tell you. The 250s are downright FUN!!! They're truly forgiving & light, easy to manuever bikes. They don't have bad habits. Strong brakes. Engine power comes on very sedately -- which is GOOD when you're learning to ride well on the street. But, when you really crank on it & wind up towards the 13,000 rpm redline, the bike gets far more serious! It will do 110 mph, so obviously no slouch whatsoever. You can out accelerate about 95% of the cars & trucks on the road, so it's just not a dumpy bike. They look the best of any 250 cc. (Can't believe Honda doesn't make something similar). They will hone your motorcycle riding skills better than about any other bike in my opinion. Resale is terrific. Buy an 06 if you can. Kaw hasn't really changed much for years, but the 06s are newer & have some of the best paint schemes & workmanship. You can always sell a Ninja 250, but what you might discover, like me, I don't plan to ever sell at least one of them!! Seriously, they're THAT fun. Plus 75 mpg is hard to beat these days!! I use it to run errands in town all the time. Cheap + fun transportation. When I hop on my RR, I totally fall in love with it again each time, and the 250 is certainly no RR, but it's a terrific bike - you won't be sorry. Regards, Jet Jockey Z06
