Has anyone customized their Hurricane? I just picked up a 1988 really cheap (free). I was able to get it running after changing all the fluids, new plugs, new battery and cleaning up the carbs. The clutch lever is broke (bought the carbon fiber one on ebay). The fairing is cracked in several places from being knocked over in the guys garage for the last 10 years. I was thinking about removing the whole fairing, removing the tail section, replacing the seat with a solo saddle, replacing the bars with a set of drag bars, and replacing the gas tank with a Vincent Blackshadow type. I also thought about stainless steel fenders, again like the blackshadow. And of course replacing the headlight. Any thoughts?

Fix the body and paint it flat black like rEdLyNeR's bike http://www.cbrforum.com/m_19479/tm.htm. Click his attachment.

I have to admit I do love the flat black paint. My original plans were to restore it, but I haven't been lucky enough to find after market plastics. And while I think I have the skills to fumble around mechanically, fixing the bodywork is way out of my skill level. Ideally I thought a carbon fiber replica body would be available but if it is I can't find it. Would anyone know if the body work from the 1100 XX would fit on the 1988 Hurricane 1000?

Anything can be made to fit.
It is the time spent, effort and money, that it's not worth it.
There is nothing for the '88 out there, trust me I have search quite a bit.
You can find for the 600, but not for the 1000.

if you *really* want trick CF fairings, I knw just the place that will custom make them for you, not cheap, but excellent workmanship.. see www.carbonfibrefx.com for more info.. the MK3 supra (white) is the company car which is running 10's in the 1/4 mile at about 130+ MPH, it's pretty loaded with CF parts.. for a little less money they can make fiberglass parts too

search on ebay for honda cbr1000 and I think there's a guy parting out an old 88 cbr1000 there which you gould get some replacement fairings from..

hey i'm streetfighting my 87 hurricane. i cut off the subframe and am using a complete tail setup from a 1000rr and a vfr swingarm. i dont have any small pics to post on here but check it out at bikepics.com under 87 1000f. just my opinion but it looks pretty sick to me.

You are right that is one sick bike. It is also the new wallpaper on my computer. That settles it streetfighter is the only way to go. I'm going to do away with the whole tail section and drop a solo seat down about 3 inches. Steely fenders and a wire spoke wheel in flat black up front. Thanks for the link. Great bike.
