What's up everybody? I have recently purchased a 98 CBR 900RR and would like to lower it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, due to the cold weather here in Kansas I yet to take the bike over 10MPH. What kind of power/performance can I expect from the 900. It has about 8,000 miles on it.

Here's my reply from another post furthur down on this board about lowering:

DO NOT lower the bike. Lowering a bike is one of the worst things you can do. It changes the handeling, geometry, and lean angle of the bike. Honda designed them to perform at a specific height. When you change that height, you alter the bike. Most AMA and professional racers raise the bike back up for better handeling. That being said, you can lower it other ways. Pick up an extra seat off ebay and shave the foam down.

Why are you wanting to lower the bike? If it's for looks, then don't. You don't want to sacrafice performance, safety, and handeling for looks. Is it because you can't stand flat foot when stopping? Then shave the seat, get boots with bigger soul's. Learn how to stop and use one foot flat. Have you taken the MSF course yet? From the questions you are asking this sounds like your first bike. The 900 is a wicked fast bike to learn on with no experience.

The height is the problem. I had a GSXR 750 SRAD before and could sit on the bike with my feet flat on the ground. The CBR seems to be a little taller. I had not thought of shaving the foam off the seat. I am just a little short of being flat footed so I think this may work. I bought my CBR with out having ever riden a CBR before so I'm not real sure how the performed. I used to smoke some of the ninja 900's on my 750, so I didn't know what to expect from the CBR.

I will try to shave the foam - I appreciate the help!

Also....anyone know where to get a rear seat cover for the CBR?

Ok good, it sounds like you have some riding experience then. If you don't want to try it on your seat, pick up a used seat off ebay to try first. I have seen seats for 900's going on ebay for $30 or less. That way incase you mess up or just don't like it, you are still have your factory seat to put back on. As far as the rear cowl, I have seen some good deals going on ebay for used ones. I know several of the companies that make fiberglass or carbon fiber body kits have the rear cowl avaliable. Also look into second look seat covers. They have seat covers that match the factory graphics, so it will clean the look up, but you will still have the rear seat for a passenger if you want.

I lowered the triple trees clamping the forks less than an inch.
I don't recommend at all anything more than that from my experience.

I had to do this because it would wheelie too much & made me nervous years ago while I would come out of turns with hard acceleration.

I noticed that when I accelerated next to other bikes, they would wheelie at lower speeds while I would shoot out on two wheels.

Maybe what I have done could be considered bad, but it worked for me for 8 years with this setup.
I personally would not even think about messing with the back by altering it's height.

For YOUR purposes, you may be better off with the thinner seat as previously recommended.
