i've been talking to some of my buddies about what bike to start out with, and they're saying i should even get a liter bike instead of a 600 because the 600's arent that powerful after you get use to it.  I know for a fact that my raptor is no where near as powerful when i first rode it, is it the same for bikes?  i'll probably still end up getting the 600 but what are you guys opinions?

Hahahahahahahahahahaha, thats one of the most ignorant things I have heard. Do they ride;ok, for longer than 800 miles??? If there is not enough torqure, change the gearing. I dont see how a 600RR isnt powerful enough. No, it doesnt feel like the same kick you have when you first get it, but thats because you are more comfortable and farmiliar with the bike. Its not a matter of power, but what you do with it.

Dear geez freaking bleeep. Dude! im 6'1 200lbs and the 600 almost rips me off the bars. Good freaking luck holding on if you got a passenger. 600cc cbr as first bike is almost killing yourself allready. I so wish I had started on a 250cc. And not being fast after a while just how fast do you want to get up to 180 or 200? either way you leave any car on the road and either way you will die if acting stupid. 600cc are lighter in turns too. 1000cc gets worse mpg. I still cant even extract 1/3 of my 2 bikes max in turns. Also 600cc wheels try to come off ground just like 1000 do if you cracking it open you better make sure you leaning foward. Bottom line if you get anything bigger than 600cc for first bike you are an idiot. I say this just because you will end up hurt or wors its hard enough controling the 600 monsters that today are much faster than 1000's used to be less than 10 years ago. There I think the smiley's are trying to tell you too.

Everyone just needs to give up!!! This kid just doesnt get it--he's made up his mind and no one is going to change it for him..Everyone in here has made excellent points--he will go down and the only question is will CJcrawler survive? It just cracks me up because Ive been riding now for over 5 years and can afford a 600rr ALL DAY LONG but do NOT want one..Im very happy with my F2-plenty of power and great handling but maybe for some 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds just isnt enough!!
Maybe someday dealers will require buyers at least have their motorcycle endorsement before they will sell any kind of motorcycle--that just might save alot of lives..

here's my 2 cents worth .....

where i live you have to start on a 250cc learner for min 3 months licence 12 months before a bigger bike
i agree with jchavers but, if you want to start on a 600cc at least get something more tame.
i now ride 04 600 RR and i give it the repect it deserves.
everyone thinks they are the best rider in the world, i'll be the first to say i'm the worst and besides i don't think anyone in this forum has a GP trophy

I don't understand why people recommend older 600s beginner bikes.  Yes, they are relatively tamer to the new 600s but when the F4i, F4, F3, F2, and Hurricane were new, they were not beginner's bikes.  Why are they now suddenly such??  Their characteristics haven't changed.

IMO every noob that I've ever heard say that bullshit didn't belong on a more powerful motorcycle.

I am because my mommy told me so! Call her a liar and see what happens to you. When I get my digital camera I'll post pics of all my G.P. trophies so there.

basic rule of thumb, anyone who asks, "why did you get that 600 instead of the 1000? its way faster" = squid
this is the stupedest shit ive ever heard.  im really not trying to offend you or fuss at you or anything. but your friends are f**king idiots.  your raptor is still as powerful as the day you brought it home, a 600 is still as powerful as the day it was brought home.  just because it FEELS less powerful doesnt mean that it is, and it DEFINETELY doesnt make it any less dangerous. (false sense of security?) and sorry to break it to them, but 1000s are no exception, they will feel less powerful after a few months as well, so will hayabusas and zx14s, nothing will feel as powerful as it once did, and as long as there is something faster out there, anything but will become inadequate in the eyes of squids everywhere. i dont think that anyone here is trying to scare you out of sportbikes, yes they are very high strung, and uncomfortable, and handle as sharp as a razor to the point where a flick of the wrist can throw you 20 feet in the air,  but there is nothing in this world that will get your adrenaline pumping like riding a sportbike.  but (even though it sounds like you werent going to) please dont base your decisions on something as childish as, "oh this one goes faster" or "that one doesnt feel as powerful"
please take what most are saying as constructive criticism, id love for you to have nothing but enjoyment from sportbikes, but please be reasonable, and dont take any more advice from jackasses like that.
take care, and good luck finding a bike.
