Dub & Collector, Thanks guys again. I usually use a piece of PVC pipe that fits to the outer diameter of the oil seal to tap the seal into the outer tube. I might order wrong one or the Dennis Kirk sent me a wrong one. I don't know, but it was toooooo easy to push in. I really appreciate you both recommended HONDA genuien parts, but I red this right after I ordered "Leak Proof".

hy Yas just a stupid question.... Did you mount the seal the right way? as in serial nombers of the seal pointing to outside? I find it dificult to believe that out of 2 cheap seals, just one is leaking.... greetings

Motor_Fan, Uhmm... that is very good question. When I did oil seal job for my another bike ('78 CB750F), simply it was not easy to push the seals in to the outer tubes. I didn't really think about which side is up or down. Maybe you are right. But package of the seals or service manual don't tell us about this, do they? Does someone have opinion?

On harleys (i am a mechanic working on them every day....) also the manual or package does not specify wich way is up. Never the less in MMI (Motorcicle Mechanics Institute--- Phoenix Arizona) they told us that fork seals, always have a one way mountig procedure if its not specified otherwise by the part info sheet. So as I was saying fork seals when mounted must have the serial pointing up, or lets say in a way that its viseable without dismounting (this procedure is corect for 99.9% of all type seals thar are out there). One more way of knowing how it is right is that the seal on the inside (the part that slides on the fork tubes) has atleast one bump. The sharp edge of the bump has to be pointing towards the inside where the product to be sealed (fork oil in our case) is present. Hope it helped. regards

Motor_Fan, Thank you for sharing your professional view and opinion. I have never thought about it. Yeah, the seals I bought, I saw two bumps inside, but old one (I assume these are HONDA genuine parts) has only one bump. So, as the coclution, do you think I put the seal up side down? (another set of seal are on the way anyway... oh well)

Mounting the new ones or seeing the ones you have mounted if corectly fitted you still have to take the forks off the bike. Take a look first at the one that is leaking. If its mounted the other way arround just switch it and youl have the new set as spares... you'll never know when they will be handy. One more thing when mounting seals make sure that the fork tubes and seal are well coated with oil. Don't mount them dry. Seals can have oil on both sides (fork tube and lowerleg sides). Also you wore saying that you use a pvc tube to fit them into place, if needed use a big washer berween the pvc and the seal so you have a big surface of contact when pressing the seal in. regards

Moto_Fan, Thanks again. You know what? While I still lived in Japan, the little motorcycle shop's owner in my home town was just like you. He shared everything he knows with the customer. He didn't care sometimes he lost his business in that way. But, his shop was always filled with real motorcycle freaks. I hope he still lives. We don't see that kind of motorcycle shop any more...

I received a new set of oil seal from LeakProof yesterday, and installed it. The LeakProof oil seal has totally different concept from the original equipment. I have never used LeakProof before, but their rubber wiping back the fluid (sort of ) concept is very interesting. The ordinary oil seals we know are little metal spring band ties up rubber part and seals. For LeakProof, actually the rubber part doesn't have any spring band, also the rubber seal swings between two metal washers. I had about 50 miles ride yesterday, there is no leak at all. LeakProof is about $5 more than ordinary seals,. but I love em.
