Can I use a RX 530 xso x-ring chain on a 90 CBR 1000F hurricane? Also, what type of 0-ring chain can I use, because I really don't ride it all that hard. (as of yet..hehe). And where would be some good places to find them at a reasonable price?

Thanx a bunch!

All the CBR's use 530 chains.

Forget the O-Ring chains. They do not seal anywhere as good as the X or W-rings. But it is really all false economy. A good quality X or W-Ring chain will outlast several O-ring chains.

Thanks!!

Where would I find an x or w-ring on the innernet where I won't break the bank? And what is the difference between the x and w-ring? I'm a real green-horn on most things about motorcycles, but I'm getting better and more knowledgeable as time goes on. I've only had it for a little over a year and was only able to ride it for about a total of 3-4 months. I just need the chain for now, because I looked over my sprockets and they seem to look pretty good. The peaks are still flat on top and doesn't seem to be much wear, but coming next spring I'll be putting everything new on.

I am from Australia so I can't give you any tips on where to buy from sorry.

O - Ring only has 1 sealing point that is needed to be made wider (hence more drag then X-ring) to make it seal.

--------

x-ring has 2 contact points between the rubber and the link plates.

-------

W-Ring has 3 sealing points

I would only go for w-ring if it was the same $$$ as the x-ring.

P.S ALWAYS replace the chain & sprockets at the same time. A new chain will be worn out quicker by old sprockets and vice-cersa.

What he said -- see one of the site sponsors for a great deal on a good chain. Limpy or Brad will make sure you get the right chain for your bike.

Thanx!!

Would it be alright if I got just an o-ring chain to last me two more months and then when spring comes just go out and get a w-ring kit?

I only ride a couple days a week, if that. With work, kids, and their sports practices/games, it don't leave much time me.

PM Sirlimpzalot on here. He owns Apex motorcycles. One of the site vendors. He can get you a great deal on a chain & sprocket set. If you are doing your chain, you want to do your sprockets as well to play it safe.

Unfortunately I don't have the $ to get an entire set. So he'll be sitting in the garage until next year...lol.(I'll bring him out every once in awhile to give him a bath). But come next year I'll be getting a hold of Sirlimpzalot for an x-ring chain and sprocket set, you can count on that. (that's if the deals good) LOL jk.

Thanx for really good advise.

Just how shagged are your chain & sprockets?

If you can lift the chain off the sprocket more than half the height of the teeth or if its past the wear line then they are shagged.

If not then get out there with a scourer, a paintbruch (with the bristles cut short to make it stiff) and some kero and get in and clean every single link.

Wipe off, allow to dry and re-lube both the left and right side plates and you should get a bit more time with them.

When the chain is shagged you can usually feel it through the left footpeg.

Good luck.

Well, the sprockets still look good. But the chain is loose and it won't do much good to tighen it. I had it tightened around May and it didn't do much to it then.

As for feeling it in the leftpeg, I'm not to sure. I'm still getting use to how it all feels. Wish I could take it out right now, but it wouldn't start for me yesturday even though I had it running the day before...LOL. So I have more things to check out today. It never ends for me..lol. Someday though, it'll all come together.

I'm just going to wait and get the whole chain and sprocket kit when I have the $. It's safer that way. But thanx for your suggestion.
