hi i'm new to the forum. I was wondering if a 1KRR is too much for me to handle? I'm currently 5'11 1/2 and weight at 240 (big mofo), I currently have a 05 ninja 500 that i've been riding for 8 months (ride everyday to work, school and everywhere except when it rains). I was considering something around the range of 750 or 1000cc. I have had an experience with a 600cc but anything else greater i havn't rode. I always ride safe, gear up always except for boots, I wear my air force one which cover my ankles. Thanks for your input.

I love the 1000RR's, but I have to disagree with "The Bermanator".............not everyone is unhappy with a 600. Just depends on what you do with it. If you stunt or race around on the streets, then yes, the 1000RR's extra torque and power helps. But if you are a casual sportbiker who mainly commutes, and plays around every so often, then a 600RR will be more than enough. You have to ask yourself "do I need all that extra power, and will I ever use it?"

I've attended a few track days at the local track and let me tell you, the majority of the bikes are 600's. Racers always say that the 600's are more "flickable" and manageable in the corners and on the track compared to their 1000cc counterparts.

I went with the 600RR mainly because

1 - Insurance is cheaper.
2 - 0-60 in just over 3 seconds is still DAMN fast.
3 - I love the way 600's feel at the track.
4 - It's a streetbike, so why would I need all that power when 90% of the time I'm obeying traffic laws and NOT getting into trouble?

But that's just me, others have their own opinions.......this was mine.

Good luck with whatever you get.

Dude, yes you will be happy with it... if you survive learning how to ride it.
You are relatively new to riding. I read you have been riding for 8 months but have you taken a MSF course, do you have any track time? Have you spent any time practicing emergency braking, do you understand the possible reprocussions of adding to much throttle in the middle of a turn? Have you ever broken the back tire loose under acceleration? Have  you ever 'accidentaly' gotten the front wheel off the ground?
These are not stupid questions and are completely relevant. The cbr1000RR is a MONSTER, it is not a tame, well mannered, polite bike like the 600 is. You really have to work to mess yourself up on a  6. On the 1K, you can mess yourself up if you quit concentrating for a second. Now I know everybody who reads this is going to say 'Man, whatever, hell be fine'. BUT I best heard the transition from 6 to 1K described like this.
"Experience is like a bag, Hopefully you fill your experience bag before you empty your luck bag" or something like that. With the 1K, you better take it VERY seriously because it is so easy to get crossed up and in trouble quickly. By the way, I have an 06cbr600RR and an 06cbr1000RR sitting in my garage right now.

Check this thread out if you want to see  a pretty in-depth discussion.-->  http://www.cbr600rr.com/forum/index.php/topic,16021.0.html

A 600RR will be more than enough for you, but a 1KRR will be fine *if* you respect it. Anyone that says a 600 is too small has never riden the 600RR.

as long as ya keep the 1000rr below 5500 rpm you'll be alright ... although 8000 rpm is when it gets REALLY interesting

A 600, 750 or 1000 will do you good, but you have to respect it...blah blah blah. You've heard it 100 times...just adhere to it.

My CBR1000 is way more than I need, but I like it. I only use 20% of its capacity, but hey...I've had an SUV for 8 years and never went offroad.

The bike only does what you tell it to do. If you want the front wheel up, Its up. if you want to brake the tire loose, done. But as long as you don't panic and twist the grip at the wrong time, your good. I went from my 78 H-D to a 1krr and havent had a problem at all. You know where the clutch is, you know where the brake is, and the go grip is. use them. I love my 1k and find it a tame bike when I want to cruse and a beast when I want to play. I do however know my limits and stay in them cause I don't want to scratch my baby and would really like to see my 3 month old son grow up.

hehe its funny, but 99% of the people u talk to will never be able to push a 600 to its full potential, including myself. but its weird, i think its a mixture of bragging rights and all the power u know u have but will never have to use, that draws us to the 1k. I ate it a few times on my 1k for lack of respect, and im almost certain ull prob beef it too comming off of a 500 to a 1k, since it only takes 1 second of poor decision making to land urself face down, and jumping up with broken ribs to see if ur bike is still good :o). whether u choose a 600 or a 1000,respect it 100% of the time... and yes FEAR ir, fear keeps us alive. and if u do choose a 600, dont let other talk down to u, a good 600 rider will smoke a 1k on the canyons, sometimes even on the straights.

Like you, I moved from a 500EX (an '04) to another bike (in my case, it was a 900RR last year).  When I purchased a new bike a month ago, I considered a 600 (especially the '07s), but it all came down to price and I was able to pick up my '06 1000 for just a few hundred more than a new '07 600.  Either way, I'm sure you'll love either bike.  The most important thing to remember is to *RESPECT* the bike.
