Are you talking about screen on the bike or on the helmet?

I would not suggest riding with a smoked screen at night on your helmet, and many manufacturers have made it really easy to swap them out.  If you might be riding at night, put on the clear shield and wear sunglasses under the hemlet.  I have heard it may be illegal in many states to ride after dark with a smoke shield.  On the bike I would never be tucked so far down at night where it would be an issue.

My opinion is have a smoke for day and clear for night. Let me give you a story that happened to me. I had my light smoked visor on and i was following a friend going to his house. this neiborhood had quite a few curves but i was used to it. Coming to a left hand turn, i dipped the bike and looked through the turn. The problem started when a car was coming  in the oposite direction. Because i was in a lean and the headlights are now almost eye level, it blinded me for a second then it took another second for my eyes to re-adjust to the dark visor and where the road was. Long story short because i no longer had my vision for those couple of seconds, i ended up cutting the curve and headed for the middle of someones yard. There was a drain sewer on the end of the curve and I had to hit the brakes, too late. I banged into the curve and dinged my rim lip in the process.

I really don't recommend smoked for night unless you get caught at night with it. I now carry two visors. the safer you can be the more enjoyable your rides will be as well.

take care brother

I have an HJC Cl-15, I use the mirrored screen during the day, and switch to a clear one at night. Its VERY easy to swap them out, I just keep the spare screen in my backpack.

I have always ridin with a dark smoke visor on my helmet. I never take it off. I have found that is really not the dark looking out of it. But, that's just me.

I use HJC CL-Max with a smoked visor in the daytime only. It's written that it shouldn't be used at night. When i think i might be out late, i take fit the clear visor.

I use to have a smoke and a clear visor.  My only problem seemed to be when I only was going out for an hour and end up staying out all night.  Now I keep the same clear visor on and use sunglasses.  Just alot easier to take off sunglasses and slip them into your pocket vs. trying to find somewhere to stash an extra visor.

Your eyes do get adjusted to the less light, but what happens at night and you flash a light, your eyes have to re-adjust. do you really want to spend a couple of seconds blinking while heading into a turn??

it is always safe or ok until you run into a sewer!! hahah (ME)

I recoomend riding blindfolded. Be one with the road. A good rider can feel the road. Youll never have to worry about sunlight EVER again!!

just get a clear one and put a polarizing insert in it. It will darken during the day and remain clear at night.

I had my wife sew a microfiber "bag "for my clear visor, then split the liner in my jacket and sew thte bag in. It wraps around my waist and I cant even feel it. Now I always have the proper visor!
