Running a higher octane can damage your engine because higher octane has a higher detonation rate.  In other words more of the gas will ignite making it run lean since your engine wont expect that high of a stoich mixture and it will lean out.  If you have your vehicle tuned for it it you will be fine, but honestly you are wasting your money, and potentially damaging your bike.

Uh, I hate to say you're wrong but....you're wrong.  Higher octane gas does not increase "detonation rate" it does just the opposite; it makes detonation less likely to occur. This is why higher compression and/or turbo/supercharged cars need higher octane, so detonation does not occur.  Higher octane gas is less likely to burn when compared to lower octane fuel.  Nevertheless, anything over premium in today's bikes, stock, is a waste of money.

I'm sorry I mixed my words, I didnt mean detonation, I meant ignition rate.  Meaning like I said, it will ignite more of the fuel causing you to run lean.

Higher octane will ignite more consistently preventing detonation like the poster previously mentioned and corrected me on my misuse of words.

In short, running 93 in a car tuned for 87 is a waste.  Running 103 in a car tuned for 87 can be dangerous.  Running 117 or spraying methanol in a car tuned for 87 IS dangerous.

you could buy VP U4 at the dealership.  or go to ur local hobby shop and buy some 30% nitro fuel for nitro R/C cars...  throw some of that in your bike, it makes a huge differences.  now dont bash me saying im screwin up my bike cause i havent used it in my 07 1kRR.  i used it in my 04 CRF50 lol.  makes that thing haul ass!!!

it's now u4.1
it's oxygenated...should tune for it to maximize or it's a waste...but the smell of it and other race gas is well worth the waste...muhahahhah...
it's highly corrosive so don't leave in engine.
it's not very good for the motor. i would only recommend on race bikes where life of the motor isn't your goal.

The compression in a RR is 12.2/1 and that is high for a street engine, 101 octane will not hurt the engine. Low octane (cheap fuels) will. I would not go over 101 unless you get some motor work , etc higher comp pistons, titanium valves hot cams, mapping, Just my $.02 worth.

higher octane does not make you "ignite more of the fuel" or whatever else jibba jabba you are talking about.

type in octane in google and go read about it for awhile. higher octane resists ignition. allowing higher compressions and hotter temperatures. a high octane fuel like 100 in a bike that is made for 87 or 91 will definitely make it run rich as less of the fuel will be ignited and it will make less power.

agreed if you think that higher octane will make your bike run leaner your   octane increases the detonation temp and pressure of gasoline.  effectively ritchening it .  Anything 12.0 to 1 or better wont have a problem  with 101 as a mater of fact.  If you did run 101 strictly you could advance your base timing and squeeze a few extra horses out of it. However, if you went back to 91 with the timing advanced it could cause problems such as early detonation screwing up your pistons and bearings..... just my two cents though.

Getting a little of topic about octane and trucks wanting to race. On the other hand a few days ago i was on a major highway near my town and this guy in an 03 or 04 mustang v6 no less got beside me and was passing me then slowing down  doing it for a few times. Well the passenger started  mocking me. So me strolling at 65 in fourth gear looked at him nodded so he kinda did a hand count and took off.  I down shifted to third  100 popped 4th 130 mph then 5th 150mph not a mustang in sight. so I slowed down waited and just kinda waved. happens all the time on I-81. *I love it*

its pump gas not race gas, and the reason i run it is that the dealer told me if i can run better than premuim then run that.. now i alwasy run premium i found this 76 station that has 101 and i decided to try it at first just a gallon or 2 and  i noticed my bike got better fuel milage, then when it warmed up i started to ride again more offten adn noticed my gas milage was way down, so i checked the plugs and filters and found nothing wrong just happened to need gas one day and stoped there deciced to try running a full tank 4.5 gallons . i go great milage afer that and still do i just run a tank full once a month. am i doing something to my bike i will stop! but the dealer told me i was fine. but if you guys know better please fill me in! this is my first new bike and DO NOT WANT TO FU@# IT UP! please tell me if i am doing the wrong thing! oh and i showed up at the airstrip on sunday and the guy had his freinds there and just handed me the money and said he was sorry thought i was a 600 ! dam and i was all excited to run my bike so i did a couple passes just for me ..wow! is all i can say i have really never opened my bike up before ..but wow!

What's your opinon of the bike on the top end?
I had a Busa that was solid as a rock at 186. But I never had my gixer 1000 over 160. It didn't feel like there was enough bike there for me.
