ORIGINAL: ssnowman Isn't is true that it won't make it to first if you just try to rattle down through the gears without letting the clutch spin between them? This is how most people end up bending shift forks no? Someone set me straight. As far as I know, skipping gears is not a problem when done correctly. just be careful when letting off the clutch if you skip gear because of the drastic change of RPMs. 5th gear at 7,000 RPMS and you shift to 3rd. You could be running close to 12 - 13,000 when you let the clutch out. if you can image that happening, your rear wheel will lose traction at that drastic of a change. if your bike is equipped with a slipper clutch (which i doubt, cuz your in the F3 section) you don't really have to worry, because the slipper clutch allows the clutch to spin with out spining your rear tire. Does this answer your question? I don't know. Give me a situations and i'll break it down for you. is that better?

How about answering my question. I seriously want to know what 5% of my advice or information was correct. If we're here to help, that is. If we're just gonna poke sticks at each other then fvck it - let's leave the keyboards at home.

ORIGINAL: LlanoSV I would go as far to say 95% of Kid's knowledge is wrong. Maybe I read it wrong. DD, dude - stick a sock in it. No one was even talking to you.

No thats just fine, I get the whole rpm thing, i am fairly mechanically inclined, just new bikes. I was just thinking that if you had to come to a stop quick and were stoped in 5th gear if you were to rattle down the gears to find 1st it would get hung up in second. My buddies F2 is like that and someone told me that if you don't downshift sequentially that you can end up bending a shift fork. They were saying you should always spin the clutch a little in every gear on the way down.

If you buddy is having problems going down to first at a stop, then tell him to let the clutch out slowly while putting pressure on teh shifter to go into first, and when it hits the engagement point, the tranny will go into first....if that makes any sense lol
