I just bought my f4i this week and the dealer told me it needed premium, but then i looked at the owners manual and it said the to use 87 or higher. Im gonna try regular 87 next time i fill it up. If the owners manual recommends it then i dont see how it could hurt.

Stock bike, some say 89 is fine....I run 91+ though...its not like its that much more per tank when our tanks are only 4 gallons anyway. I say its more important to get high quality gas at 89 octane then watered down 93 octane. Your tank is small. get good quality.

87 is fine on stock F4i. the owner manual says it will be fine.

i have an 06 F4i bone stock and i run 93 or 94, which ever station im at.  hell it only costs 9.00 to fill up on 94, so why not.

i put in 91 or 93 depending on whats available even if gas gets to 3.00-4.00 and  hour its still 9.00-12.00 to fill up so i dont have a problem in putting it in.  Also in my car i noticed it was better so when i got the bike i didnt even think twice about what gas millage i put in it.

Higher octane will not necessarily burn cleaner.  If anything, you might have more unburnt fuel.  Higher octane means the fuel is harder to ignite and you'll have less premature ignition (which you'd experience as knocking) in a high-compression engine.  If your engine was designed to use 89 octane, you'll gain nothing by using 91.  But if you use 87, the fuel injection system will have to adjust for it by running richer.  This will decrease fuel economy, and top-end power.  So if you get better mileage with 91, it's an indication that you're maximizing the engine's performance.  If your mileage is the same, it's an indication that you're just wasting your money.

yo...do a search before you post things like this...the search function is your friend.

use the least amount of octane required to prevent predetonation...that's what you need to run optimally...so stop wasting your money with false claims of better this better that...the only thing better is you may feel better about yourself putting higher than needed octane in.

high octane does not equal high quality...indicates more resistance to combustion...so stay in school and learn this stuff...

AND USE SEARCH FUNCTION

+1 there is a ton of info out there on this subject but you always get guys saying run premium gas it's better. My bike works noticeably better on regular.

haha he said stay in school!!!!! i dont want to run into this arguement because its been done to death on this forum. so guys, please do use the seach feature.

i run 87 or 89 for most part in summer. i wouldnt use 91+ in the summer. high octane ponetial will catch up with you when you pull up to a red light in the middle of summer.... you will burn the hair of your legs if you know what i mean.
