just a straight up power wheely (no herky jerky with the throttle) is probably easier on your bike than the snap power wheely or the clutch, but power wheelies are just too unpredictable unless you got a 1k or something with a bunch of torque/maybe geared up.  It takes too much to get it up, and by the time the front gets light it seems the powerband is hittin the meat... they match up to bring it up and over faster than a lot of people can react to the brake/throttle chop.   If you clutch it you can work your way up a little higher at a time to where you can consistently hit bp, below bp, above bp, wherever you want, its up to you. The other major bonus is your not running out of gear by the time you hit bp, allowing you to ride them forever, or at least have that extra bit of gear available if you need to bring it up higher.

+50 on what everyone said on how/why to clutch it.

**edit... I meant to add the throttle on/off/on power wheelies are probably pretty hard on your tranny.  think about it, your chain has some play in it, as well as the tranny itself, so when you get on it hard, then chop it all that play goes to the front, then you snap it back and it slams the back (think hitting a metal pipe between two posts).  when you clutch it your on the gas a bit, slip the clutch and let it out, allowing the tranny to stay touching the gears, no slamming....  think adding pressure to the pipe in one position on one post....   hope that helps, hard to explain for a simpleton like me :(

quite a bit faster     Ive only done it once so far (knock on wood) but if it happens again i might not freak out so bad lol...  I still caught it when i was comin down so i didnt slam the front end, so i kinda had my head on my shoulders, but i still about shat myself when it started going past bp that fast... def wasnt ready hahahah

when/if I ever get a cage ill prolly start doin em on purpose in first...  cant see trying super slow stuff w/out a cage though, case covers are kinda important/spendy hahahah

I power mine up, and I learned on a stock geared '01 F4i with a pipe. It is about your own personal preferance, but I can do either, stand up, sit down, clutch or power. I could pull it up in 3rd gear, even when it was stock. (granted I had to be going 120mph...)

I would say play around, and see what works for you.

Accelerate to about 6k rpm, roll of throttle and roll back to WOT, watch the end come up.

I did my first wheelies yesterday using that method. It scared the heck out of me the first time, but not so much that I wouldn't do it four more times . I'll have to give the clutch a try next time.

As for which is harder on the bike, from a mechanic's POV, the clutch wheelie is a lot harder on the bike. That's just my opinion. Dumping the clutch puts a huge shock load on the dogs and teeth, not to mention the clutch plates and basket.
